Yalla is a word of calling which originates in Arabic and has been adopted by contemporary Hebrew speakers. Yalla means ‘come on’ or ‘lets go’.
At its core Yalla is made up of a group of friends who have formed this collective in response to the recent and ongoing conflict in the Middle East which segregates people world-wide.
We are a diverse group. Our backgrounds include Lebanese, Israeli, Palestinian, Syrian, Iranian, Jews, Muslims, Christians as well as many others who don't have an obvious connection to the Middle-East.
Based in London, we take this opportunity of living in an international city to build relationships and collaborate creatively as a resistance to the destructive divisions between our respective communities.
We celebrate and draw on our diasporic nature and work with those we are connected with in the Middle East and internationally.
Yalla aims to provide a platform for social and cultural events and artistic collaborations. These events will be documented and publicised through various mediums.
Keep an eye on our myspace, or our website: www.yalla-online.org, for a list of events we're running.
We welcome your comments/ideas/proposals - let us know if you would like to collaborate on an event in London/Middle East/anywhere.
Also we are always looking for interesting music, videos and pics - feel free to suggest.
