DJ Melle Mel was born in Toledo, Ohio and was raised in Tampa, FL where he first started spinning records at the age of 16. An avid fan of the WFLZ mixers Stan “The Man†Priest and Matt “The Brat†Bradley, Melle Mel finally got his chance to shine when he realized his dream and began working for 93.3 WFLZ as a mixer in 1999. Filling in on the Saturday night “House Party†with Brian Fink as host, Melle Mel realized his true passion was for electronic music including everything from breaks to house and trance. While working at FLZ, Melle Mel started syndicating his mixes to KJYO in Oklahoma City, OK and WKFS in Cincinnati, OH. After a few months he picked up several more stations and began the Syndication network “The Hit Factor†which in its prime was on more than 40 stations nationwide including such major markets as Detroit, Dallas, Chicago and more. In 2002, Melle Mel made the move to Detroit to work for WKQI as Director of Mixshow Programing where he created the Channel 95.5 “Bomb Squadâ€, a team of 5 mixers that took over the streets of Detroit. During his stay at WKQI, Melle Mel has worked at every major nightclub in the Detroit Metro area as well as done many gigs abroad including opening for Hilary Duff in Oklahoma City, Doing live on-air broadcasts in Albany, NY, Spinning for In-Style Magazine’s grand opening party for Express Men, opening up for DJ Scribble in Atlantic City, NJ and spinning several label parties at the Winter Music Conference and DJ Times Expo. Melle Mel has also done several live on-air broadcasts for WKSC “Kiss FM†in Chicago, IL. His greatest achievement to date is landing a weekly mix on XM Radio’s channel 81 BPM alongside such well known mixers as Johnny Budz (NY), Joe Bermudez (Boston), DJ Scotty Boy (Las Vegas) and Trevor Simpson (San Francisco). Now Melle Mel is taking over the streets and clubs of Las Vegas, NV.
