Born in San Francisco, CA to a musical family, there was never a day when Ede Wright didn’t hear either classical piano from his mother, or Jazz saxophone from his father. At the age of 7 Ede’s family landed in Tampa, FL where by random chance, he received his first guitar.
Ede explains in a recent interview: “I remember as a kid running through the empty house my family was moving in to. As I was exploring this house my sister yelled out, “hey look what I found.†She stumbled across an old guitar someone had left in a closet. I hadn’t thought about playing the guitar up to that point but I found myself drawn to it every time my sister wasn’t around. It soon became evident to everyone that the guitar was destined for me and I’ve been fascinated with it ever since.â€
When Ede moved to Atlanta in 1989, he walked in to a scene that was crackling with energy. Doors opened to amazing opportunities as Ede worked on many diverse projects with an array of artists: Destiny’s Child, Mya, Ceelo, India Arie, Gumbi Ortiz, K.D. Lang, David Sanborn, Euge Groove, P’taah, Anne Nesbee, Kaya, Bebl Gilberto, and Everything But the Girl.
The world stage was opened to Ede through multiple appearances in the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Israel, Japan, Portugal, Germany, and Luxembourg as a touring sideman with jazz vocalist Lizz Wright, experimental electronic group Ananda Project, and Grammy nominated jazz trumpeter Russell Gunn.
Whether touring, working in the studio, or teaching guitar, he always brings a fresh sound and viewpoint to the music. That fresh sound will soon be heard on Ede’s second self produced CD titled “Gravity,†on his own independent label Without Wings Music LLC. “The music on Gravity,†Ede says, “is world jazz, with influences ranging from Afro Cuban, Indian Classical, Electronic, and Rock, all wrapped in the rich tradition of jazz.â€
Keep your eyes and ears open for new music from Ede Wright in the early fall of 2007. Ede is one of the brightest lights in the world music scene with a sound and vision truly his own. “Life is a beautiful gift, as is music,†Ede continues, “I pray my music can help people to see the infinite beauty in themselves.â€
