For multi-talented singer/songwriter/musician Raymond D. Hollis, Jr., music is the essence of his heart. Raymonds interest in music began at the age of 3, playing the drums skillfully without lessons. His interest in music continued through out his early years of grade school where he played the french horn, piano, and organ. Although he had conquered the challenge of learning to play these instruments, his passion for music flourished. He went on to expand his talents by learning to play the tuba, electric keyboard, percussion, xylophones, and the trumpet, which he played in high school and college. Even though he is gifted to play various instruments, his primary interests are the piano, electric keyboard and organ.Raymond, majored in music at Hampton University in 1984 and has fifteen years of experience as a Minister of MusicAlong with his gift of singing, writing, and arranging songs, Ray has been blessed to play the organ and keyboards in the play, Yes God Is Real in 1986, which performed at the Shoebert Theater, Nashville, TN, Richmond, VA, Ohio and other locations. In addition, he played for If only For You and Why Am I Still Holding On performed in 1995 through 2000.These productions were performed in the Atlantic City area, as well as South Carolina. He played for the gospel group Leviticus, 1988-1990, who has opened up for well known gospel artist such as: Commissioned, the Winans, and John P. Kee. He toured with them through Michigan, Ohio and Virginia.He played for the live recording of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (G.M.W.A.) Male Chorus in 1993 and 1997. Ray rearranged the song Joy to the World, which was recorded live by New Hope Young Adult Choir of Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1994.Ray has appeared on Sharon Deans CD entitled Triumphant Victory released in 1996 and he co-produced, arranged and performed most of the music on Sharon Deans CD entitled In Full Bloom released in October 1997. He wrote a song entitled Psalms 8
for the live recording of Pastor George Seawright and Royal Priesthood in September 1997. He wrote, arranged, played and sang his composition entitled Son & Heir in the year 2000 at the live recording of Pastor Karen Johnson. He has created tracks for local artist Total Praise from the Atlantic City area. In the year 2001, he directed, as well as sang, with a local choir in Savannah, Georgia who opened up for Mississippi Mass Choir and The Williams Brothers. In July 2002, he accompanied Twinkie Clark and Angela Christie at the birthday celebration of Rodney Darkchild Jerkins. In 2006, Ray performed on the Christian talk show Babbies House which airs on Atlanta Live.
