MEET ILLA JONES
.
"The past few years have been a hell of a journey for me. Friends murdered, high school drama, suicide attempts, dealing with a dysfunctional family, relationship issues; I love it all though because the process of coping with the stress is an amazing experience. It all starts with an idea. It continues with my voice, and it usually ends up on your iPod."
Illa has become many things to different people. Fortunately for him, strong-minded is one of them. What started in a 2 bedroom apartment in the Bronx and a classic '80s sampler machine has transformed into an international advancement of listeners. If the captivating sounds of partner-in-crime Jovonni's "All Cool" doesn't entice you, then the litigious lyrics of "16" definitely will. And of course, if you haven't caught on the infamous intro that has rocked Atlanta teen clubs(not to mention strip clubs)of "Nick Nack," its because you haven't been to a party in years.
The year 2008 prompted the spread of an outstandingly large online fan base. The MySpace page alone reached listeners from Australia, Europe, the West Indies and even some native Asian listeners, who by rule, do not have legal access to online blogging sites such as MySpace. Listeners quickly embraced the idiosyncrasy and approach that the music alone has created.
Its a big change from the past.
"I remember feeling so insecure with my music. I used to be really hesitant to let people even hear it. It kind of just shows how much of a shy person I am inside." says a now 17-year-old Illa Jones. "I don't want to sound cocky now, but I'm convinced that the moves I'm making on the low is beyond the potential of other artists in my vicinity."
The year 2009 now puts the transplanted New Yorker on a brand new plateau. With the long-awaited adulthood light visible at the end of the tunnel, and a greatly anticipated line of mixtapes, remix compilations and albums due, success is inevitable. Its no secret why Illa Jones was nominated 'Most Likely To Become A YouTube Star' and 'Most Talented' among his high school senior class. "People don't plan to fail. They fail to plan."
