VLAD AND ANTOINETTE (2008)
WILD SERENITY:
Colombian born Writer, Actress, TV-Host Kika Pérez was innately urged by most expressions of Art. Moved by music, inspired by cinematography and challenged by literature, she was a natural performer and interestingly enough, also an avid writer and poet. Words have been her life. She fell in love with language; Spanish, English, and attending an American High School in a Hispanic town (Barranquilla), made her culturally and grammatically bilingual for life.
In 2001, after graduating LA UNIVERSIDAD DEL NORTE as BEST IN CLASS with a SILVER MEDAL, the Journalist moves to MIAMI to pursue acting. Shortly, she enrolls in the CREATIVE WORKSHOPS ACTING SCHOOL of Stewart Solomon, where artists like Sofia Vergara and Gloria Estefan got their training. Later that year, she appeared in Univision's GATA SALVAJE and SECRETO DE AMOR. Soon, Independent Film Directors liked Kika's spunk. She landed a part in LATIN KINGZ, a low budget comedy directed by Daniel Zirilli from L.A.’s Pop Art Films. Later came BIRTHRIGHT, an independent family drama where she demonstrated her talent as a dramatic actress.
In 2002, she was chosen as one of the hosts of NBC/TELEMUNDO’S new cable network, Mun2, to deliver her undeniable honesty and fiery personality on CHAT: a breakthrough interactive talk show that targeted young U.S. Hispanics and gave them a voice. Being one of the highest rated shows on Mun2, CHAT was an explosive controversy to its audience as well as its creators. Other Mun2 projects gave Kika a chance to diversify her craft, interviewing world-known celebrities and reporting daring and humorous stories like FULL ACCESS, an uninhibited behind the scenes approach of Telemundo’s hit reality show PROTAGONISTAS DE LA MÚSICA, and the Urban-Music Syndicated LIVE hit show THE ROOF.
She also found the time play the small but crucial part of Gabriella, a sensual and strong woman that doesn’t take no for an answer, in the Independent Film ESTADOS. This Spanish language feature, directed and produced by dream team 3HM FILMS, Pablo Alsina and Max Vera (Argentina), was honored as BEST FOREIGN FILM in the MADE IN MIAMI Film Festival in 2003. Kika Pérez had given her best speaking a language that is was not her first, and speaking it like a native. She surprised many with her impeccable English and reached a point where her roots asked her for a little “Español.â€
That is when she joins the cast of Telemundo Network’s RITMO Y SABOR, a spicy and humorous music variety show where she really had the chance to show off all of her assets. Talent, looks, style and a personality of such energetic proportions that it earned her a screen nick-name she eventually learned to live with: Kika, la Rica. (Kika, the delicious) RITMO Y SABOR was certainly an exciting adventure; Meeting and interviewing recording artists from around the world, the big and the upcoming, and having a kind of television freedom were music, life and entertainment is all edited into one big party to a very urban and young beat. It was known for being one of the first shows to explore Reggaeton as a genre and especially for discovering young gems that are known stars today.
Along with all that fun, flavor and humor, there was also a more mature Kika that sat down with artists like Alejandro Sanz, charmingly exploring them, contributing to a combination of journalism and entertainment. By 2005, she had become a recurring guest on shows like Univision’s morning show TU DESAYUNO ALEGRE, and had found time to enjoy her writing talents as a writer/reporter for BATANGA MAGAZINE, interviewing musical legends, such as Chilean rock band LA LEY.
In 2006, she joined Batanga’s online team, Batanga.com, as On Air Host of their clips and specials, interviewing new musical artists and being her spunky, sultry self as well as using her very conversational style to bring out the true grace of her subjects. In 2007, she joins Filmmaker David Orth in an independent project, playing the role of Evelyn, a conservative but strong woman that might show a different side of Kika.
Kika is Currently settled in Los Angeles, California. Through The Kika Perez Company, a publishing/production and media outlet created in the urge to obtain progressive autonomy, she still juggles to exist as an artist of multi-faceted creative expression, exploring the world of Online Publishing, by playing with the early stages of her own featured Internet Chronicle, titled EL SANCOCHO; where she tackles Pop-Cultures Politics in two languages and two cultural realities, adding her usual wit, sarcasm and flavor.
