Pleasures And Days

Pleasures and Days was formed in the year 2002 in Helsinki, Finland, by a few like-minded individuals to create perfect popular music for the people of the 21st century. The project is a late result of the recent perfection of the forms of Western popular music and the democratization of digital music technology. The music of Pleasures and Days is generated semi-automatically by mathematical algoritms from the collective memory banks of Western high and low culture, assembling its remnants of trash and art together as political simulation while operating musical microelements long since phossilised into solid structures. All pretence of both expressive originality and stylistic credibility is abandoned in favour of strictly academic study of the obscenity so apparent in popular music's current, permanent, final state.--- The first few years of the project were spent in creating the main body of Pleasures and Days' work and experimenting with various ways of presenting it to the public. Not belonging to any particular musical sub-culture or scene, Pleasures and Days have been able to perform live in different social environments, more or less succesfully creating a mutual spectacle of ecstatic alienation in the spirit of popular music for themselves and their audiences.--- The task of translating Pleasures and Days' material into recordings finally commenced in 2005 when a three-year release program was begun. The earliest tracks written already in 2002 were also the first to be recorded. The earliest ten songs in the Pleasures and Days catalogue comprised the first album "Peak Age", which was recorded in late 2005 and released in March 2005 by Studio Là-bas. At least three albums remain to be completed: "Interpretating Bodies" (consisting of songs composed 2002-2003, due release before the end of 2006), "Politics of Pleasure" (consistings of songs composed 2003-2005, due release in mid-2007), and "Beauty Lost to Time and Drink" (consisting of songs composed since 2005, due release in early 2008).--- After the completion of the quadrilogy of albums, it is likely that Pleasures and Days have fulfilled their purpose and completed their mission on the field of popular music and are able to retire, hopefully knowing by then that the labour has not been all in vain.
