A self confessed hip-hop and beats freak since he was knee high and always a great believer in skills, Chambers' DJ sets span house, techno, breaks and surprisingly jazzy tracks as well. Behind the decks he prides himself on his skills as well as being adept at long mixes that layer creeping, funk fuelled rhythms that typify Chambers sound.
Manchester born Chambers has graced the decks at MOS, Bugged Out, The End and Turmills and DJ’d everywhere from Australia to Argentina and Egypt to Estonia. Described by Mixmag as one of ‘the new breed’ along side Steve Lawler, Craig Richards & Danny Howells.
Since remixing and reworking tracks for the likes of Steve Lawler, Rae & Christian and Darren Emerson’s Underwater label, Chambers has gone on to release self-produced tracks, such as ‘Flex and Relax’. Released on Jon Carter’s Saville Row label and described as ‘an electronically tinged breakbeat bomb’, it regular spins from DJ peers such as Lee Burridge, Adam Freeland and Howie B. Under the Darcadian guise alongside James Ried (Blue Amazon) he co wrote ‘Daylight’, described as ‘a lush progressive breakbeat anthem’ which received support from James Zabiela.
Chambers’ first residency was at Pacha, Ibiza for the Ministry Of Sound. “I think it was just my attitude that caught the eyes and ears of people on the island,†says Chambers. “I got some great reviews and it did allow me to play some amazing places.†International dance floors beckoned before he landed a prestige residency with Frisky, MOS’s renowned Friday night.
But ‘We Love’ promoter Mark Broadbent had already spotted Chambers on the circuit and signed him up to bring his unique sound to Australia. As well as his residency at Home in Sydney Chambers landed at nights and events across the continent.
On returning to his native Manchester he continued to DJ, produce and remix. It was then the concept for Cienna was born. Originally set up as a collaboration of minds to experiment in the combination of live and electronic music it has since developed into a collective of like-minded DJ’s & musicians created to form a vibrant soulful stage act. Cienna has attracted attention from those in the know. Matthew Williamson's fashion show soundtracks were just one of several projects to benefit from the Cienna sound as were several prestigious Cirque Du Soleil parties. Cienna’s current promo only mix CD Mint Soul is doing the rounds.
Now resident DJ at Maison (www.maisonmusic.com) alongside Cliff Lay, he shares the decks with the likes of Justin Robertson, The Stanton Warriors, Tom Middleton, The Unabombers and Norman Jay to name but a few. Together with Paul Beynon he has just put the finishes touches to a promo only mix celebrating the Backroom Sessions at Maison. If that’s not enough Chambers is currently hard at work on a project which he only describes as ‘something very close to his heart!'.
