Lucy Karashigo was born in the secret Karashi Mountains on Hokkaido and had to flee to Coney Island, because the Jakuza was after her (she had found out some secrets... about the Tenno... but pssst). Being in Coney Island she fell in love with a sword-swallower. But that was long before she met her now husband Sid. In Coney Island she started to make music and—after her sword-swallowing boyfriend had died from a hiccup— she tried to overcome her sorrow with a new hobby. That's when she found out that she really liked writing stories and inventing characters and let them do what she wants, like puppets on a string.
So it happens that today Lucy writes songs, sings with her favourite bands son de la goutte and eldorado cats and is working on her first novel.
Electrofunk and Space Country Pop are her favourite musical styles. And she loves Haruki Murakami and Paul Auster—exclusively in a professional way of course, because the only man in her life is Sid.
They live in Cologne, far away from the Karashi Mountains. Lucy might never be able to return to Japan—though she is planning one or two concerts next year in Tokyo. We will see. But from time to time Lucy travels to Coney Island to visit her old fellows and to take a breath of Atlantic air while sitting in a little rusty cabin of the Wonder Wheel.
Times are achanging, as an old friend of Lucy's, Bob, is always saying. And Lucy changes as well. But what will remain is her optimism that love and music, art and word are powers that make up for our sometimes silly stay on the planet.
