Biography

Vuyani Mbutuma, today better known as Vido Jelashe, was born in the ghettos of Guguletu, Cape Town, South Africa during the Apartheid Era of Verwoed. He grew up and got inspired by his grandmother who played piano and organ and sang with her powerful voice in church. During his high school years, he started playing with the Reggae Regulars, then followed on with the Black Sufferers and sang later for the Heavy Fantastics. He graduated at M.A.P.P., a music college in Cape Town, and received his diploma in Jazz. Short after, he got discovered by the Livin' Spirits which brought him to Germany. They worked together from 1993 until 1996 and released an album called "Free The Children". Late 1996, Vido started his solo career backed by The Growing Tree . They recorded two live albums "Vido Meets The Growing Tree" (1997) and " Live " (1999) and toured all around Europe. He also collaborated with some German artists like Schreiner (Hip Hop), Volker Meitz (Nu Soul) and Noiseshaper (House, Dub, Reggae) and recorded with Luciano "The Messenjah", Black Kappa, Joseph Cotton, Ganjaman, Feueralarm and many more... In 2005, he released the singles "Watta Com Outta We Eye" on the Ceasar Riddim produced by Grooving Smokers Music and "Babylon A Take Control"on the Superior Riddim produced by Pow Pow Productions. Vido appeared on the Time X Riddim (MKZWO) in 2007 with the title "Too Much Provocation".
Vido is now working on a solo album. On it, you..ll find songs like "Oh What A Day" (5th Element Riddim by Devon Wheatly), "Love Is By Your Side" (One For The Road Riddim by Digital B), "Jah Will See Me Through" (Intoxication Riddim by Don Corleon) and many more...
Next to his own project, he is the singer of Tiger Hifi .
