Writing, writing movies, watching movies, books, not writing books, wishing I had more time to read books, music, listening to music, wishing I could play music, pretending I can sing music, urban planning, architecture, interior design, people watching, comedy, looking at pictures, taking them from time to time. Being crafty all the time.
Denny Baker. Vaclav Havel. (He was at Columbia and I missed the perfect opportunity to get my picture taken with him. Typical!) Revolutionaries. Architects. Revolutionary architects. Thinkers. Writers. People who follow their heart no matter how great the obstacles. People who play the banjo or breakdance, or both. Is both at the same time too much to ask? People who don't drive SUV's. People who do drive pickup trucks. People who don't listen to Brooks & Dunn while driving pickup trucks. People who don't listen to Brooks & Dunn, period. People who can teach me something. That's basically anyone because I have a lot to learn. Unless it's learning to like Brooks & Dunn. People who want to help me make movies. People who want me to help them make movies. Other than that I am willing to meet anybody. Even people who went to my high school. Well, maybe not you.
Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, My Morning Jacket, Ryan Adams, Griffin House, Weezer, Wilco, Sun Kil Moon, Iron and Wine, The Clash, Billy Bragg, Beastie Boys, Tribe Called Quest, Stevie Wonder, Prince, The Streets, Ani DiFranco, Beth Orton, Fiona Apple, Dar Williams, Rosie Thomas, Patti Griffin, broadway musicals, mix cd's from Smitty. I am roughly a decade behind with my music appreciation so by the time I "discover" new bands/musicians they have usually broken up or sometimes died.
This could go on forever but here are some of my favorites and also some that I have seen recently and liked. Nashville, Half Nelson, Friends With Money, Mildred Pierce, Brick, Chinatown, The Royal Tenenbaums, Chasing Amy, Walking and Talking, Casablanca, Annie Hall, Ghost World, Saved!, Almost Famous, Love and Basketball, All the Real Girls, Junebug, In the Mood for Love, Jules and Jim, Keeping the Faith, Bridget Jones's Diary, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, The Breakfast Club, Say Anything, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Singin' in the Rain, Shaun of the Dead, anything by Bob Fosse, anything by Kieslowski, and the list goes on...and the list grows...
I basically have no time to watch TV anymore but in a perfect world, I would get to see these shows on a regular basis. Sex and the City, Project Runway, The Daily Show, Scrubs, The Office (I like both versions. Deal with it.), How I Met Your Mother, Entourage, Jeopardy, Frontline, Sports Night, Studio 60 (anything that Bradley Whitford does is okay in my book).
Bridge to Terabithia, The Giving Tree, The Missing Piece, Pride and Prejudice, Catcher in the Rye, Love in the Time of Cholera, and pretty much anything by David Sedaris. I'm a big essay reader. Collections of essays: all the better.
My nephew! He learned how to walk, just like that. Amazing! And now he is talking, although much like me, he probably has no idea what he is saying.
