Sweeping sagas like Master and Commander, spy thrillers like the Bourne Identify, inspirational life stories like Cinderella Man, boy-gets-girl-while-playing-minor-league-baseball like Bull Durham, nicely burnished screenwriting that just happens to have two legends with great chemistry doing the lines like Something's Got to Give and the occasional believable May-December thing like As Good as it Gets, and a recent cable fave, a funny and heartwarming/heartbreaking story about a life and disabilities, I'm Dancing on the Inside.

My favorite novels of all time are probably James Clavell's Tai Pan and Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth. I just put Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance on the nightstand for a long needed re-read.
