1. What does the name Mangled Carpenter mean?"Mangled Carpenter refers to Christ being a carpenter by trade and being mangled, tortured and nailed to a cross."
2. Why is there an EXPLICIT CONTENT sticker on your CD? What are your songs about?"Our record label required the EXPLICIT CONTENT label be on our CD because they managed to secure our CD access into major secular music outlets around the country. They also noted the explicit topics (not language) on our CD".
"Our song content is explicit in the sense that we write about topics that some seem to believe is explicit in detail.
For instance, the song SPIT is about Christ's journey to the skull and how he was spit upon and beaten.
The song SHADOWS is about a child that is abducted, raped and murdered and how a father might react to such a situation and bring in to question thoughts about forgiveness, vengeance and murder.
The song FLATLINE is about suicide. It is personal to us because it is dedicated to a close friend that took his own life and we have known other close friends that have done the same over the years.
The song WICKEDNESS is about taking a closer look at who we really are inside and realizing that we need to be cleansed of much ugliness.
3. Are you guys a "Christian" band? A "Satanic" band?Growing up in a Christian home, this is a question we remember being asked about every single band we ever knew or listened to. On one hand it seems a valid question, but on the other hand we think that question brings a lot of false assumptions to both the sides of the equation being that of "Christians" and "non Christians" alike.
We are a band of men that have faith in God and we ultimately like people to know that we are real, we sin, we get angry, we love, we need, we hope, care and we love heavy music! :)
Mangled Carpenter is a vessel that allows us to express our thoughts on many topics, including faith, God, religion, philosophy, theology, human nature and so forth. Ultimately, we have always understood that not everyone will understand us, but that is ok with us.
We believe that our music will speak to the right people and others won't want anything to do with it. We respect that and hope that they also respect the fact that we aren't doing this to get rich, get popular or to gather an army. We know that leading is done by example, and some will choose to follow and others will turn away."
