About Me

Black Sugar are a new LA rock band with an exciting energy and a dynamic heavy mod/psych sound. Lead by singer/guitarist Alex Baker, formerly of the Dance Hall Crashers and Downtown Kicks among others, the band is something of an underground supergroup: featuring ex-Mojo Filter Clifton Weaver on bass, former Pat Smear bandmate Pacoima Jake on keyboards and journeyman hard rock drummer Richard Danielson on the skins. Together the group pounds out a throbbing psychedelic reggae tinged sound. A bit like the MC5 getting into a scrap with the Clash, or perhaps the Rolling Stone Roses if you can imagine such a thing Their live shows are dynamic explosions of energy and emotion that seem generally to leave audiences asking for more. With their catchy hook filled songs, cool laid back image and dash of punk rock swagger, Black Sugar are a dirty sweet treat that's guaranteed to satisfy.
