I LOVE MY MARINE.

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.
He goes days or weeks without running water. You stay up for 16 hours.
He stays up for days on end.You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward. You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt. You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again. You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists. You complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow. You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He doesn't get to eat today. You make your bed and washe your clothes whenever you need to.
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean. You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today. You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.
He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months. You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home. You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume. You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet. You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting. You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded. You see only what the media wants you to see.
He sees the broken bodies lying around him.You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger. You stay at home and watch TV.
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.*

Battle of the Flag
A protest raged on a courthouse lawn,
Round a makeshift stage they charged on,
Fifteen hundred or more they say,
Had come to burn a Flag that day.
A boy held up the folded Flag,
Cursed it, and called it a dirty rag.
An OLD MAN pushed through the angry crowd,
With a rusty shotgun shouldered proud.
His uniform jacket was old and tight,
He had polished each button, shiny and bright.
He crossed that stage with a soldier's grace,
Until he and the boy stood face to face.
"FREEDOM OF SPEECH", the OLD MAN said,
"Is worth dying for, good men are dead,
So you can stand on this courthouse lawn,
And talk us down from dusk to dawn,
But before any Flag gets burned today,
This OLD MAN IS GOING TO HAVE HIS SAY!!
My father died on a foreign shore,
In a war they said would end all war.
But Tommy and I wasn't even full grown,
Before we fought in a war of our own.
And Tommy died on Iwo Jima's beach,
In the shadow of a hill he couldn't quite reach.
Where five good men raised this Flag so high,
That the WHOLE WORLD COULD SEE IT FLY.
I got this bum leg that I still drag,
Fighting for this same old Flag.
Now there's but one shot in this old gun,
So now it's time to decide which one,
Which one of you will follow our lead,
To stand and die for what you believe?
For as sure as there is a rising sun,
You'll burn before this Flag burns, son.
Now this riot never came to pass.
The crowd got quiet and that can of gas,
Got set aside as they walked away,
To talk about what they had heard this day.
And the boy who had called it a "dirty rag",
Handed the OLD SOLDIER the folded Flag.
So the battle of the Flag this day was won
By a tired OLD SOLDIER with a rusty gun,
Who for one last time, had to show to some,
THIS FLAG MAY FADE,
YET THESE COLORS DON'T RUN.

My CurseI watched you walk away
Hopeless, with nothing to say
I screen my eyes
Hoping to see you againThis is my curse (the longing)
This is my curse (time)
This is my curse (the yearning)
This is my curseThere is love burning to find you
Will you wait for me?
Will you be here?Your silence haunts me
But I still hunger for youThis is my curse (the wanting)
This is my curse (time)
This is my curse (the needing)
This is my curseThere is love burning to find you
Will you wait for me?And still I want
And still I ache
But still I wait
To see you againDying, inside, these wallsCan I see your face in these tears?
In these tears
And I see your face...There is love

He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." ~Author Unknown~ * *

Two of my biggest heros is my Mom and Dad. They have worked hard all their lives to provide for my brother and myself. And they continue to do so for my neice and nephew. My Brother is trying his hardest to get all the way on track and has come a long, long way. I am so very proud of him. I love my family very much and wouldn't be who I am today without them all being a part of my life.

I also consider anyone who has, is, and will ever protect my freedom, a hero. Anyone who has fought in this war or any past or any future. I know I am not cut out to do what those men and women do everyday. They are Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Daugters, Sons and Best Friends. They have families that go to sleep each night praying for their safety, and I do the same. God Bless Them All.

My boyfriend, Steve, is my hero. He is wonderful and kind. Caring and accepting of my flaws. He is sensitive and sweet. He is intelligent and goofy. He makes me laugh, even when I don't want to smile. He makes me feel whole, makes me heart feel full, nearly bursting with adoration for him. He makes me feel comfortable with who I am. He understands who I am and what it is that makes me tick, and he loves me anyway. He makes me a better person, he has a calming effect on me, all I need is to hear his voice and my worries and agrivation melts away. What would I ever do without him? I hope I never have to know. I heard it said, 'You know you love someone when you cannot imagine your life without them." That sums it up for me. I can see us as old folks, sittin' on rockers on the front porch. I love this man.

*
*Another hero for me is Parent(s) who raise their children to have respect, morals and a strong belief in God, like in the good old days. Back when an ass whoopin' wasn't a punnishable offence. I think that is the problem with todays society. Not movies, music and video games. I have watched and listened to some offensive crap and never killed anyone. Cause I was raised with love and dicipline. Not that useless time out crap! So I applaud anyone not afraid raise their child as they see fit.

And my friends, you are all my heros. For one reason or another, we have become friends. Some of you I may not see as often as I like, and some of you I never get to see, but I love you all. You are all so very special to me and my life wouldn't be the same if not for you. Thank you all for being my friends!

THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT MAKE THEM LIFELONG BROTHERS. LOVE. COMPASSION. LOSS. FEAR. DISTANCE FROM LOVED ONES. TRUST. YOU AND I, UNLESS YOU HAVE WORN THESE BOOTS, WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT MAKES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BROTHERS LAST AND WHY IT CAN BE EVEN STRONGER THAN BLOOD.

*WE WERE ALL TOUCHED BY THE TRAGEDY THAT WAS 9-11. IT WILL FOREVER REMAIN A VIVID MEMORY FOR THOSE OF US THAT WERE ROCKED BY THE DEVISTATION. ALL LOST SOME, AND SOME LOST ALL. THE FAMILIES REMAIN IN MY NIGHTLY PRAYERS.

YOU WILL HEAR OF WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS, BUT SEE THAT YOU ARE NOT ALARMED, SUCH THINGS MUST HAPPEN, BUT THE END IS STILL TO COME. NATION WILL RISE AGAINST NATION, KINGDOM AGAINST KINGDOM, THERE WILL BE FAMINES AND EARTHQUAKES IN VARIOUS PLACES. ALL THESE ARE THE BEGININGS OF BIRTH PLANS. MATTHEW 24:6-8
