SCHRöDINGER'S MAC

About Me

Schrödinger's Mac may or may not be Alan Stewart, a Bay Area native who moved to L.A. in the early 90s to study classical guitar and music composition at Cal State Northridge. It was here that he joined forces with fellow music students Matt Harris and Jim Lindsay as guitarist for the rock-funk-ska trio Stick Figures.
A respectable earthquake was the final catalyst for relocation in 1995 to San Francisco, where he continued studying music at San Francisco State. It was here that he discovered computer based music production, a process that quickly grew into an obsession. Not to neglect his rock roots however, he continued playing guitar, occasional contributing live and studio recordings for San Francisco psychedelic power-pop band, Oranger .
Currently co-owner of Robotspeak - a community-based, independent computer music store located in the Lower Haight district of San Francisco, Schrödinger's music is unpredictable. Evolved from equal parts rock genetics and classical training, his compositions flip unexpectedly from chaotic noise to melodic simplicity, and are formed from diverse sonic materials: acoustic and electric guitars and basses, virtual instruments, snippets of children's records, sampled shop visitors, his drunken girlfriend, and of course, his cat.
