The Downstairs is a new grassroots music venue on Bath St in Glasgow City Centre borne out of the confusion that was Bar Warhol. Small in stature but with big intentions, we will be opening our doors on the 6th Oct 2006.Based over 2 levels, The Downstairs (basement level) is predominatley an intimate band performance space which in our previous incarnation hosted nights by many local acts on the Glasgow unsigned scene including Scunner, You Can't Eat The Word Food, The Last Project, Miss The Occupier, San Sebastian, The Dirty Hepburns, Conscious Pilot, Y'all Is Fantasy Island, Mouse Eat Mouse, Alfonzo, Friends Outreach Programme, Baby Jane, We Are The Physics, Blitzhoney, Pop Up and many more up and coming unsigned acts. It was also nice of Drive By argument to drop in and treat us to a night of new material that they were showcasing for their US label. With a new name also comes a new ethos. The Downstairs whilst still welcoming riff laden performers from the indie scene would also like to leave the door ajar for more introspective performers and slightly shift the emphasis to (semi)acoustic performances from all genre's and from bands wishing to diversify and play stripped down sets that their fans might not otherwise expect from them.We will finally be unveiling our second floor at our opening date which will hope will quench your appetite for good food, new film, art and photography from up and coming local talent and some of the hottest new DJs our fine city has to offer. Our opening photography exibit will be brought to you by Jonny Wonderful, a prominent local photgrapher of bands and other interesting spectacles.
