Dylan Roberts

Dylan Roberts is guitarist with a unique playing and arranging style. His arrangements employ a large palette of chords, voicings, tunings, and techniques in order to access new possibilities on the guitar. Techniques he uses include right and left hand tapping, harmonics, and using the body of the guitar as a percussive instrument. In the same tradition that Jimi Hendrix arranged “All Along the Watchtower” or The Beatles adopted “Twist and Shout”, Dylan’s arrangements are highly personalized.As a native New Yorker, Dylan has had the opportunity to study under jazz guitarist Chris Ullrich. For over a decade, his continuing studies have exposed him to many compositional and arranging techniques, as well as the ability to read and transcribe music. These skills enable him to analyze music, and gain insight on how to stay contemporary.Dylan first began performing at open mics to hone his performance chops, as well as build a following. Venues he's played at include: The Underscore, The Annex, CB's 313 Gallery and Sidewalk Café.Musical influences include artists such as Michael Hedges, early Genesis, Stevie Wonder, Van Halen, and Frank Zappa in addition to jazz and classical music. Although Dylan has a broad spectrum of musical interests, his arrangements are a focused and well defined culmination of his influences, producing a unique style of modern acoustic rock music.
