About Me

a few words about Junebug
Junebug is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter whose 25-year career has taken him through a myriad of musical styles. As a solo performer, with his trusty D-18 and a vocal mic, he puts his buggish spin to bluegrass, hillbilly-country and folk.
As an accompanist he can be found playing the acoustic and upright basses, the trombone, electric and acoustic guitars and drum kit. His forays into bluegrass, gospel, jazz, funk, punk, classical and rock & roll - let alone his snappy stage patter and harmony vocals - make him an in-demand performer.
JB appears regularly as a solo artist, as well as on the bass with the acoustic duo, the Paranormals , on the trombone with the ever-popular outfit, the Royales , and on the drums with the Lennon Orchestra.
As a long-time member of the indie-bluegrass outfit Joe Bob Billy & the Texas Alien , Buggy helped to spearhead the now ubiquitous alt.country/bluegrass movement. This band still gets together to perform and tour several times a year.
The Bugster has been a member of such fan-favorite bands as the Altered Boys, Pica Huss, the Voodoo Birds, the Misprints, Slim Pickins, Liz Pahl & the Pahlbearers, and the Hutchison Brothers.
You can hear the Buggish One perform every Monday at Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery in Athens, Ohio, where he hosts the Open Stage and books the entertainment.
Mr. Bug’s recorded output rests mainly with other people’s projects, either as a member of the band or as a hired gun, though he has a solo album to his credit, the Great Conductor (currently out of print), The Notorious B.U.G. is very excited to be working on a new album, slated for release in the fall.
As a writer, he has a music column that has appeared weekly in the Athens NEWS since 2002, and his poetry can be found in various collections, including a couple of self-published books.
Junicus Bugidus (his latin name) is available for bookings of all kinds and likely can provide a band to suit any needs from concert halls, honky-tonks and juke-joints to house parties, weddings and the occasional bris.
Since you’re wondering; Junebug’s sobriquet was given to him by friend and band mate Joe Dunson, the original bass player for Pica Huss. Joe passed away when he was 23. The name has stuck for all of these years and grown into ridiculous levels of fun. This gift of Joe’s helps serve as a reminder to Juney of just how lucky he is to be doing what he loves.
