I first became aware of D&B in the summer of 1997. I heard Brown Paper Bag on Radio 1 at work one afternoon; I immediately had to find out more about this music! I started buying records from my local shop, Redeye, and eventually I set about learning how to mix.
In 2000 (using the name Mike E) I became involved with the local community station, Ipswich Community Radio (ICR), I have since produced and presented a show on each of their twice-yearly RSL broadcasts. These shows have included guest mixes by Klute and DJ Kontrol, as well as interviews with Bad Company, Marcus Intalex, Klute and Mark & Clayton of TOV. Whilst at ICR I met Driver, he invited me to co-present his weekly show on Ipswich pirate Flex FM.
The radio shows helped me become better known locally, but I also attended many events and got to know the people around town who were involved with different promotions, (I have also promoted a couple of events myself). Slowly I started to get sets. I have since played in many of the clubs, pubs and bars in Ipswich, including a regular warm up set at Distinction alongside the likes of Bryan G, Fabio and Grooverider. I currently present the Drum & Bass show 'Spectrum' with Driver, BCee & FeelX every Saturday from 6-8pm (UK) on ICR 105.7FM and www.icrfm.co.uk.
In 2004 I also started playing 70s and early 80s Funk and Disco. I enjoy finding the original samples of the D&B tracks I have, but more importantly it's great music that has stood the test of time!
