About Me

Hi! Welcome to my MySpace hangout.
Here you will find music I made for different purposes, things I'm working on, gigs, etcetera.
'Bout me: After studying Music and Technology for 6 years, I am currently working as a freelance composer in the Netherlands. I made soundtracks for several theatre plays, wrote some autonomous stuff, made a film on the subject of building organs ans wrote music to that, etc etc.
On the side I'm busy with starting up an electro-rockband wich will feature me as bassplayer and backingvocalist.
'Bout the pieces in the player:
'Capturing Air' is an excerpt from the score I wrote and produced for the artfilm 'Capturing Air' I made together with camara man Aage Hollander and editor Kristian Claas, on the subject of building organs. All electronic sounds were originaly sounds recorded in the process of the building, edited by me. The organ you here is the Marcussen organ of the Nicolaichurch in Utrecht, played by Ko Zwanenburg. Trailer and ordering info on www.capturingair.com
'Magnus I, II, III' are three parts of the stringquartet I wrote in 2001. It is based on the novel 'In Babylon' by Marcel Moring. It's performed by the Isis String Quartet.
'Vox Dei, Vox Populi' is a piece I wrote for Dutch recorder quartet Black Intention. It's not meant so much as an accusing finger towards religion, as it is the expression of my astonishment concerning the fact how some people turn religion into an excuse for war and terror. I hope that this midi-version can soon be replaced with a recording of the actual players.
'Magnus V: Herz und Seele' is written in november and december 2006, for a composer's competition. It didn't get picked, nor played yet, so it's samples your listening to.
As the name says, the piece is based on my old stringquartet. While I was listening to some Balkanmusic online, it suddenly hit me that something was missing in that piece: The piece telling about a Polish jew, ofcourse there should have been a big part Balkan/Klezmer-like music in it! So I decided to take up some of the old themes from the quartet to create a new piece: Magnus V: Herz und Seele, for 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, bassoon and oboe. I will use material from this piece in the next piece I'm going to write in 2009.
'Symetery' (2008) is written for the combination jazz quintet (Captain Hook) and classical saxophone quartet (Esquire).
'Take Over 1 & 2' are snippets of the sound design I made for a theatre piece by Daniel van den Broeke about a man with a fascination for sound
'The night Ripper died' is a compilation of music I made for my own theatre piece at the Huis aan de Werf in Utrecht. It contains cut up Amiga and Commedore computergame-music and recorded voices which speak lines from the chat session the piece was based on.
