My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Other than yourselves, I would love to meet my ancestor(s)who were removed from Goree Island. While taking a sabbatical in Senegal, I was told that I was a Senegalese descendant by a Senegalese gentleman who had a hard time believing that I was born in the US, as were my parents. After much debate on a ferry to the island he finally said with authority "They stole your ancestors from your rightful home and shipped them from Goree!"I would love to meet my aunt, Lucille Katherine. She died just before I was born. Mom says she tried to wait. I was named after her and it is her footsteps in which I tread. She was one of the first Black women to be licensed in Beauty Culture in Ohio and THE first to graduate from the all white school in which she attended. She also had her own "Beauty Shop" that my Grandfather built.I would also like to have met Madame CJ Walker, Martin Luther King, Sammy Davis Jr., Nina Simon, Katherine Dunham and so many others.I would like to have lunch with Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Taylor, Iyanla Vanzant and B. Smith...Ooooh so much grace at one table.I would also like to have met my Mom in 1949 when she was 19 her beautiful eyes were alive, hopeful and open. I use her picture from that year in my Lady Katherine Purse ads and business cards. I'm blessed. It is a miracle to still have her, but all 3 of her eyes are closed now. But as she has always told me, "KEEP LIVING".
