The Drowning Dolphins

Founded in the late 80ies in Hamburg, The Drowning Dolphins had this members: Hauke Meyer (voc), Dirk Taubenheim (git), Helge Löbel (git), Saim Cetinkaya (dr) and Axel Goppelt (bs). Influenced by bands like The Smiths, The Chameleons, The Church and Catherine Wheel, the group soon developed an individual style: Melancholic tunes and vocals blended with atmospheric guitars and a driving rythm section. First releases were the self-titled EP "The Drowning Dolphins", followed by the mini-LP "Tears never shed". The best known release is the longplay-CD "Brighton" in 1992. Karl Gutowski replaced Axel on bass. The Drowning Dolphins shared stage with Mark Burgess (The Chameleons), The Kitchens Of Distinction, The Fall, Dodgy, Grandaddy and many more. Dirk had to leave the band in 1996 after heavy arguments - and took the band..s name with him! Karl took over Dirk..s duty on guitar, and the newly quartett called itself TOTALSCOPE.
