About Me
Hey there, I'm Tim Cahill- Australian Hero and Everton champion...I was born in Sydney in 1979, I started my footballing education with Sydney Olympic juniors before moving to Sydney United. I left Australia at the age of 16, however, to pursue my child hood dreams of becoming a professional footballer in England, the birthplace of my father.
I was taken on by Millwall and made my debut in May 1998, going on to make more than 200 league appearances for the south London club. In the 2003/04 season I underlined my scoring threat by scoring 11 times, including the winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final against Sunderland, which earned the Lions a final date against Manchester United - a match we tragically lost 3-0.
I subsequently stepped up a division to the Premiership with a transfer to Everton, who paid around £2million for my talented services. I began the season late due to my involvement in Australia's run to the quarter-finals of the Olympic Football Tournament in Athens, but for Evertonians I was well worth the wait.
After making my debut at Old Trafford in a goalless draw with Manchester United, I then scored the winning goal on his second appearance at Manchester City - a header that followed one of my trademark breaks into the penalty box. Overall, I netted 12 goals for Everton as they secured a place in the top four of the division for the first time since 1988 and also picked up the player of the season award from the fans and players of the Goodison Park club.
My international career is unique, well-publicised and significant. With a Samoan mother, I decided to play for the Western Samoa U-20 team in 1994, aged just 14. Because this appearance had been in a FIFA under-age tournament, it made me ineligible to represent my country of birth - until FIFA amended the rules in 2004 to allow a conditional change of national representation. My scenario was a major factor behind the revolutionary law change as with a strong desire to play for Australia, my case was pressed for several years.
Considered one of the best goal-scoring midfielders in the English Premiership at the moment, I was also one of Hiddink’s most important players in Germany.
