Jamila Tekalli, born in Tripoli, Libya, began playing piano at age five.
Ms. Tekalli received her B.M. in Piano Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. As a scholarship recipient of the Indiana University School of Music Dean’s Award and a Friends of Music scholar, she performed Franz Liszt’s Totentanz with the Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra as the School of Music’s Concerto Competition winner.
Ms. Tekalli has also performed in lessons and masterclasses, notably for Arnaldo Cohen, Frederic Chiu, Marc Durand and Julian Martin. She has attended festivals at Tanglewood, the Keyboard Festival in Banff, Canada, and the International Keyboard Festival of Mannes College in New York City.
In the summer of 2007, Ms. Tekalli performed a series of chamber music concerts throughout Ecuador, notably the Teatro Variedade of the Teatro Sucre in Quito, Ecuador. She was invited as a guest juror in the annual music competition Jovenes Talentos, the only music competition in the country of Ecuador, hosted by music academy Fronteras Musicales Abiertas. As a representative of the piano jury, she also taught a piano workshop including lessons and masterclasses in the music academy Fronteras Musicales Abiertas in Cuenca, Ecuador.
Her awards include National finalist of the Baldwin Piano Competition, 1st place in the Yamaha Piano State Competition, winner in the Collegiate Steinway Indiana State Competition and a junior division finalist in the 1995 Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition.
Ms. Tekalli is currently pursuing a Masters in Piano performance under Laurent Boukobza. She is the Graduate Teaching Assistant of the piano department at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
