ARTIST OF THE MONTH:Imagine a world full of gunshots, murder and bloodshed. Imagine a place where only the strongest survive, the concrete jungle. For some growing up inside the neighborhoods of Charleston, South Carolina a crazy world of violence is no longer part of your imagination its part of your reality. Having to battle through the struggles of the streets filled with crime and ruthless thugs. Osiris (17), Prez (23), Latin (19) and Killa J (17) have persevered beyond the trappings of the rough streets to form a rap group known collectively as “Savage Society.â€The Charleston based Rap Group formed in October 2005 with originally 17 members and then recently selected 4 of their strongest lyricist to represent the Savage Society. As a group they intend to spread a positive message to the younger generations inside their neighborhood and across the nation through their music. Having already released two mixtapes independently “What the Hood Made Me†which moved 2,000 units and their second release moved an impressive 10,000 units titled “Welcome to My Nightmare†hosted by DJ Chuck T a top-rated South Carolina Mixtape DJ.Osiris is the mastermind behind the formation of Savage Society. While only in his teen, he understood that it is possible to have a life outside of being a typical hoodlum in the streets of Charleston. He realized that he can actually make money through music by selling CD's instead of drugs. Osiris was able to easily to recruit rap artists to join the group since all 17 of the original members grew up together and all hung out in the same neighborhood. Therefore, it was naturally easy for them to understand each other’s struggles and share their stories.Savage Society is not just another rap group from the South, with musical influences of artists like Bob Marley, Tupac, Lil Wayne, Biggie, Kanye West, Young Jeezy, Outkast, R. Kelly, Rakim, Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG, B.G., Big L. and Turk they have been able to create their own unique sound. The combination of their delivery and lyrical content makes the remaining final four members of Savage Society stand out as a well rounded rap group.Prez takes on the role of the father-figure for the group, acting as the mentor to keep the group focused on making good music for people to enjoy. He has a unique energetic delivery style to lace each Savage Society track with pure icing. No stranger to the struggles of street life, Latin captivates each Savage Society fan through his smooth and powerful delivery. He wants to share his struggles with the world and the younger generations around him, so they understand he can relate to them and their hardships too.The youngest member of the group, Killa J moved to Brownsville, New York from Charleston, South Carolina for a brief period of time. He was part of another rap group while residing in New York. Killa J later returned to Charleston and knew he wanted to continue pursuing a rap career with hopes of getting signed to a major record label. A friend of his Jizzlle (formerly of Savage Society) introduced him to Osiris and he became an instant fixture of the group. He is mainly known for his rugged and raspy rap style.
