Reading, live music, going out, seeing the city, the world. I love to write, to drink at cozy coffeeshops, and at dive bars. I like going to the park with a book, walking/hiking around, BBQ's, a kayak on a fast river, bonfires, playing drums. I also enjoy those nights in... as a lyric I like goes, 'to pass an evening with a drink and a friend', some great tunes, and great conversation. I love the simple life and the city life. I love high-class and laid back lifestyles. I love the new, the thrilling, the exciting... and I love 'the way it was'. I'm conservative, and I am liberal (really more libertarian then anything- live and let live). I love to learn, and I love to teach.

Diversity in my life is a must, and my friends bring that into my life. I am anything but a 'clique-driven' person. If you are interesting, vibrant, exciting, intelligent, free-spirited, open-minded, adventure-oriented, I want to meet you. Beyond that, or perhaps in addition to that, I want to meet you if you are a good person. No, I really mean a really good person. Those people are the ones in life that matter when it matters.
I love just about everything. Directing you to my LaunchCastPlus station would be easier, but I'll try to summarize...Rock above all else. I HATE putting 'rock' into little sub-groupings. I like rock. Nuff said.Blues,, trance, jazz, swing, techno, alternative, easy-listening, trance, the occassional showtune, 'some' hip-hop, symphonic/classical, some new agey stuff, and cool drum beats.Artists and groups that I like include everything from Rush, John Coltrane, Johnny Cash, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Chris Issak, David Bowie, Nelly Furtado, Skynyrd. Becoming a fan of Don McLean lately (he wrote the song 'American Pie'). Train to George Thurgood, to BB King, to Muddy Waters. Toss in some 3 Doors Down, No Doubt, a little Frank Sinatra, a dash of Evanescence. If I need a laugh, some Tenecious D. Some bombastic Trans-Siberian Orchestra is always good, and of course... the father of all modern music... Beethoven. Also, I get weepy when I hear Kenny Rogers sing 'Lady'. No laughing.
(In no particular order- except the first two are my two favorites)... The Blues Brothers, and Moulin Rouge. Big Fish, Sin City, The Big Lebowski, ANYTHING with Bill Murray (Groundhog's Day is a fav though), Gattica, The Usual Suspects, Thomas Crown Affair, Swingers, Patton, Gladiator, The 13th Warrior, The Saint, Shawshank Redemption, American History- X, Army of Darkness, American Beauty, Bourne Identity and Supremacy, All the LotR's flicks, Fight Club, LA Confidential, Weekend at Bernies, The Big Lebowski, All the 'Vacation' movies, 10 Things I Hate About You, Cuckoo's Nest, Coming To America AND Trading Places (before Eddie went all 'Family Values' after getting caught screwing a transvestite hooker), Napolean Dynomite, South Park, MANY more. I own a couple hundie DVD's.
I won't go off saying 'I don't watch TV', but I find it hard to keep up on shows as seasons progress. My job has me traveling a lot, and when I am on the road, some of those days go WELL into the prime-time hours. I will say I like the following: South Park and Family Guy, Lost, most stuff on the History, Discovery, Travel, National Geographic, and Fine Living channals.
I was a literature major in college and I work for one of the largest publishers on the planet now, so we'd be here all day if I just started listing them of. How about I just say that I can 'talk lit' with the best of 'em, haha! I do have a strange (terrible) habit with books though... I have a VERY hard time finishing them. There is the old saying that goes 'a good novel becomes like a good friend, and when you finish it, it is like you lost that friend'. Yeah, that's me. I have about 8 books where I have read to the last 10 pages and can't finish them. Hey... I'm not without my quirks!I like a little of everything from pulp, to horror, to modernism, to even 'post-WW2 nihilistic prose' (Sartre, Camus, Celine as examples). Voltaire, Toulouse, King, Ayn Rand, Adams (Douglas)... Hell, I even think Julius Caesar was a brilliant writer. I love Homer, and Aeschylus, Koontz and Patterson. I can go way back in my tastes (history minor too, /wink).Oh, and my travel-bug self loves reading Frommer's books to get ideas ahead of a great trip!
I don't really believe in heroes if one means celebrities. If I were famous, I would NOT want to be a role model. I feel bad when the media tells some guy that just because he can shoot a basket, or run real fast, he is automatically a 'role model'. I can think of only one definitive role model for me... my Dad. I look at him, and I think, 'if I have to be as good as he was to me for my children, I got a lot to learn', and because of that, I think he defines what a role model is to me. I love you, Dad.
