WoodPussy & WhistlePig

About Me

WoodPussy & WhistlePig: A Blues Duo currently focused on the music of Reverend Gary Davis, Big Bill Broonzy, Doc Watson, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb and other Delta, Carolina and Country Blues Players. We do our best to represent the genres accurately and enthusiastically. It’s what inspires us, so we simply hope that it also inspires our audience. It’s eclectic and hard to find music which makes us proud to expose it to a new audience and create new interest in an important American tradition. W&W concentrates on the Live aspect of music and works very hard to “put on a great show.” So if you get the chance to come and see us live, know that we’ll be doing our best to knock your socks off. 2005 should also yield a set/album worth of original material.
The Mudcat Cafe (www.mudcat.org): I started publishing this in 1996. Then, and still today, we stand out as the foremost authority for information concerning Traditional Musics. Our membership of over 15,000 performing musicians, historians and enthusiasts all over the world, create a lively community of very knowledgeable people. Together, we have created a Web site that the US Library of Congress considers its most valuable external research resource. Very useful, and a whole lot of fun too.
The Other 99%: In its infancy, The Other 99% is a musician owned and operated Publishing Co/Agent/Manager/Record Label. By joining forces with fellow musicians, we create more venues, more gigs, more paying gigs, distribution, marketing and do what we can to create a “music scene” in our local communities. We help each other with our songs, we backup sing, sit in when needed and always try like hell to show up to each other’s gigs. We support each other in our musical endeavors.
Camsco Records: Dick Greenhaus (founding member, and my partner of The Mudcat Café), bought this label from Wally McNow a few years back. What started out as a distribution company with relationships (and lines of credit) from the likes of Folk Legacy Records, Smithsonian Folkways, Rounder, Rhino, Document Records and various other small or eclectic labels, we now republish several titles out of print, 7 active artists in the UK as well as a few volumes of historical music books out of print since the mid 1970’s. Currently our distribution consists of setting up booths at most of the Folk/Blues/Sea Shanty/etc Festivals in the North East USA and The Mudcat Café. We also do significant business in the UK and Australia. 2005 should be an exciting year for Camsco. We are currently overhauling the Web site as well as planning some exciting new things for 2005 now that Other99 is coming off the ground.
Crazy Chicken Pictures: Brian Sobel, Pat Taggart, Jon Fernandez, W&W and a group of very talented people make short films, music videos, documentaries and commercials. This bunch has all the expertise of a professional production company. Stay tuned, we’re working now on getting our work online.
