"Dill composes with a photographic methodology," says a Bloomington, IN Herald Times writer. Her new 2008 album "IN ME" continues this method with 13 tracks that sew together the landscapes and people of Maine and Indiana (as the title suggests). The CD features collaborations with Sherie Blumenthal and guest appearances by Scott Dill and Victor Birkle. The album was once again recorded in her childhood room in Evansville, IN and the artwork was created by Sherie Blumenthal.
Dill began her journey as lots of other folks do, with piano lessons, choirs, marching band, talent shows, music competitions, gigs at local coffee shops, and all that jazz. In 2000, directly after high school he headed off to Berklee College of Music after winning a Hagamann Scholarship for piano performance. After a year and a half of life at Berklee in Boston, the youngster decided that majoring in songwriting and music business was not up her avenue and moved back to Indiana to explore life more.
In 2002, Dill and her some childhood friends formed "Orenda" a four-piece band that fused folk, funk, reggae, and blues in Evansvillle, In and put out one full-length album called "Mediocrity". The band stayed strong for 1 year and then parted ways.
In 2004, Denise put out her a solo self-titled album and proceeded to go on tour across the Midwest, west coast, and Canada. He was reviewed by the Chicago Free Press among other publications and made her way to various community radio spots.
Two years later,2006, the songwriter put out his first home-made album called "Heartbeat Balloon" made in her bedroom in Evansville, IN. This CD was where Dill really found his niche and propelled an extensive tour of the Northeast and Canada.
Now, two years later Dill is back from her new home in Lewiston, Maine with "IN ME". Influenced by her work at Lots to Gardens, a non-profit organization that works around urban gardening, food security, sustainable agriculture, and community food work, Dill weaved these themes throughout this album. Look for short tours around the northeast as this album slowly leaks to the public. Afterall, her music is just a piece of her good work.
Dill has shared the stage with artists such as Hamell on Trial, Pamela Means, Girlyman, Arborea, Alix Olson, Kate Boverman and Ethan Miller, Trina Hamlin, Wishing Chair,Ahdamh Roland, Tinyfolk, and many more that you probably wouldn't recognize but should if you knew what was good for you.
