Javier Nero

Javier Nero, 17, currently is a senior at Evergreen High School in Vancouver Washington. Javier has performed as lead trombonist in the MENC All North West Jazz Band, All State Concert Band, Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra, received 6 soloist awards from Mt Hood Jazz Festival (2006/7), soloist award winner at Clark College festival(2007), soloist award at the Willamette Jazz Festival, won of the Lionel Hampton Solo Competition two years in a row(2007/2008),full scholarship to Berklee's five week workshop band (2007), and accepted into the Monterey Jazz Festivals Next Generation Jazz Orchestra(2007) A member of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony's Symphony Orchestra (2005), also a full scholarship into the MYS Jazz Band(2006) Most outstanding rookie brass player award from EHS, along with the most improved jazz member award, he also has received multiple scholarships from the Jazz Society of Oregon as well as the South West Music School to help fund his further growth in music.Javier has been offered full scholarships to berklee college of music, University of Texas Austin, Manhattan School of Music, University of Miami. Just recently Javier was accepted into the Washington all state jazz band as well as selected to be a member of the Stan Getz/ Clifford Brown all star jazz combo. With this group, Javier will travel to miami florida for a week for master classes, then later travel to Toronoto Canada to perform at the IAJE. This group also puts him in line for a possible presidential scholarship in the arts. Javier was also selcted to be a member of the prestigious Gibson/Baldwin Grammy jazz ensemble as well as the 2008 Jazz Band of America. During his short musical career he has played/studied with greats such as: Terence Blanchard, Christian Scott, Ron Carter, Bernard Purdy, Terell Stafford, Javon Jackson, Thara Memory, Nancy King, Ed Neumeiseter, Stan Bock, Jeff Uusatello, Mcoy Tyner, Eric Marienthal, and in a twist of events this year was selected to play on stage with the Foo Fighters at the 50th annual Grammy Awards. More recently Javier Nero was accepted to the prestigous unequaled Juillard School, With this Javier Carries the bragging right of being part of the 7 percent of the applicants that actually get accpeted to the school. Juilliard has a lower acceptance rate than Harvard! Javier also was informed that he just recieved the only presidential scholarship to the New England Conservatory in Boston!!! Just Recently his scholarship to the University of Miami has evolved into to a presidnetial scholarship as well!
