Unicorn Egg

My name is shinobu, and I am from finland. I know that sounds silly. shinobu is a Japanese name, if it is any kind of name at all. But my father is a globetrotting petroleum merchant, and thus we gallivant from place to place.
But jesus fuck, that is not how the story starts. My mission here is simple, yes? I tell a short story of some mild interest, and then I go to sleep. So I will tell the story of my trip to England, with Sebastian…
Sebastian is a neurologist, and a gentleman. He is a tall older man with wispy silver hair, and a very handsome, quite boyish face. I won’t go into the details of our relationship here, except to say that he is my benefactor and patron; he visits me frequently and buys me champagne and peaches; and his daughter is not quite my age. You understand the situation now, yes? It is not as complicated as some imagine it to be.
Sebastian travels infrequently, and his family never goes with him. I think the term ‘ill-favored’ was coined to describe his wife, the poor thing. She sits at home –in truth I cant think of her doing much else other than sitting- when he works in Helsinki, or in any one of the outlying areas. He is a specialist, and highly regarded. And when he is called to conferences in foreign countries, he cannot take them along- so he takes me.
I’m shinobu silverstein, half-japanese painter kid, the titular student and fauxphisticated woman-child. He picks me up in a rental car- as far as I can tell he never rides in a cab or takes the train- and we go to the airport. We seem like uncle and niece I suppose, or like father and daughter, but I don’t think that or say it aloud. Sebastian must think it too, yes? What else could he think? We sit and eat peanuts during the very short flight. I bring a book. We might just be two fellow-passengers now that I think of it; we don’t say a word during the trip. In heathrow airport he loosens up a bit and we have coffee at starbucks.
Then, to the hotel. He kisses me with some fervor and drops me quickly, leaving me in charge of unpacking, which I do efficiently. Sebastian has certain supplies that he brings along, as do i. little shinobu never leaves home without her supplies.
