About Me

I've been playing in Wellington for the last couple of years, having started writing songs while doing my Philosophy and English majors at uni. I've enjoyed playing solo and it's now time to get these songs out into the world, so they can have a life of their own. I have just recorded and printed a 5-track E.P called The Planetarium, which is available through me personally! I've recently completed a north island acoustic tour, had some great shows up in Auckland, Taupo and Wellington! I look to do another tour in the summer through both islands.

The Planetarium EP Reviews etc
"Planetarium sounds like walking into the jam session of a mystic wicker-man, but without the chanting and tambourines. With just piano or guitar, Pickering sings out tales in medieval folk-like fashion... Pickering deserves credit for doing his own thing, singing in almost Joanna Newsom-esque streams of unpredictability. And like the Planetarium suggests - starry skies, dreams, ladies and nature prevail in this poetic and personal take on what is possibly a dreamt utopian existence... Very eclectic listening" - Monique Saville (Groove Guide Oct '07)
"I very much liked too the lovely melodic opening and words of 'Lovebirds', and the slightly surreal feel in 'Her Hair Descends'. 'Goodnight Firefly' was the other one I was immediately struck by, it quickly establishes its 'locale' (if that makes sense!) and has a warm dramatic insistence." - Vincent O'Sullivan
