About Me

The Hifi Envelope started out with a noise tape called "Noise Gate" in 1996. It grew out of a fascination with sound, be it naturally occurring, synthesized or that of an instrument and the many possiblities of the delay pedal. Being self-taught and holding steadfast to a DIY ethic, I like to think of the Hifi Envelope as audible folk art.

Friends have lent their talents on occasion, but it has mainly been a four track project of my own. I try to keep it simple most of the time, but this is not about an ordered set of musical values; it's about doing something that feels right and trying to contribute in some way. I think John Cage said it best when he wrote: "I have nothing to say, I am saying it and that is poetry as I needed it".

This is poetry as I need it.
