N-TraKit (Pronounced Intricate, with the acronym Never Trusting Riches and Killers Ignorant
Truths), was born Curtis Walton, March 28th, 1977. Born 2 lbs, 14 ounces, 2 months premature, with a hole
in the middle of his brain, his life expectancy by doctors and hospital officials was either to be short lived
or in a vegetative state. But the prayer his mother prayed was, “Lord, If you let him live, I’ll give him back
to youâ€! And the Lord answered her prayer.
But by the age of 5, his mother had been placed under investigation by Social Services or reports of
severe child abuse and so Curtis was forced to go live with an aunt and uncle for a year while his mother
was placed in a mental health facility. But upon release, the abuse began again.
This time with her attempting to kill him twice. Again she was reported and Curtis was taken away
and placed in foster care. But throughout his stay in different foster homes and group homes, N-TraKit
would find himself being sexually molested as well as raped, 3 times by 3 different persons, once by a
close family member all by the age of 13.
At the age of 8, he began writing poetry, while learning to freestyle battle in the ciphers amongst
those twice his age. Influenced by Hip-Hop Pioneers Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick,
N-TraKit, found hip hop and poetry as a way to escape this harsh reality. It was his way to
communicate his feelings or his thoughts and by the age of 10 he had developed an overwhelming passion
For music and began to follow the careers of his favorite artists such as Eric B & Rakim, BDP,
Public Enemy and MC Lyte.
At thirteen, N-TraKit and a co-worker from a youth summer program founded
their first group, Geto Dope Krew, a hardcore hip hop/rap group consisting of members PAC, Double S and
himself Poochie, a name he borrowed from his older brother. Although the group didn’t last long, they
recorded a single by the name of Geto Dope. Shortly after the groups dismantling, he decided to keep
pursuing the music and changed his name to MONT, this derives from the last four letters in his
middle name and giving the name MONT an acronym which meant Mack of Nine Ts’.
After recording a couple of songs under the name Mont, he then proceeded to shop them as demos to
several recording labels, but never received any responses.
By the age of 16, music, basketball and school begin to take a back burner after moving to another
foster home. N-TraKit left high school in the middle of what was supposed to be his JR year and getting
more involved with the gang activity and then becoming a teenage father.
But after a couple of years of the street life, drug addiction, two near death encounters and an 8 month jail
term, he then returned to his passion of music after receiving Christ as his Lord in jail.
Upon receiving his GED and attending a community college, he then changed his name from
N-Sane (given by a gang member) to N-TraKit. During that time he met Ronald Talley who he calls his
music mentor, and would learn music production, and engineering. They would come to form a
production team and would then begin work on a compilation consisting of many local artist, with
N-TraKit being the lead artist. Shortly thereafter, the death of N-TraKits’ mother (in 2000) would cause
him to go a depression and would cause him to go into a solitary state and even turn away from Christ.
Which brings us to date. After about a year N-TraKit returned to Christ and began to understand that life
was not promised and that
“Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of troubleâ€. ( Job 14:1).
But also “God is able to make all grace abound towards you that ye may abound to every good workâ€.
(2 Corinthians 9:8) In 2007, N-TraKit released a mix tape consisting of underground hip hop production,
done by N-TraKit. With the following of the Spring/Summer release of his debut album,
“Tried By Fireâ€, under his own independent label, Given It 2Em Recordings.
N-TraKit attends True Light International Ministries under the guidance of Pastor & Founder Scott
Jefferson. Where his duties include running the audio system as well as outreach.
N-TraKit is available for Youth Summits, school assemblies, as well as speaking engagements.
