The Vancouver Island based three-piece known as The Whiteboard Project started somewhat out of the blue in late 2006. Paul Jacobs (guitar/vocals) and Jeff Laird (drums) were attending a mutual friends party where the band that was supposed to be playing were too drunk to even pick up their instruments. Having never played together before they reluctantly agreed. The two read each other like books and their styles of playing meshed so well from that moment the evolution of the band seemed to be organic. The two agreed to form a band and set out to find a bass player.Paul knew a bass player named Brady Tollefson who he had seen play around town with different bands. He had run into Brady shortly before the party and the two had exchanged phone numbers. Brady was contacted and the next day the three had their musical introduction at a local bar’s jam night. Once again the pieces fell into place as the boys tore the bar up with a set of covers and originals that Brady jammed along to. The bar was so impressed by the three they gave them a night every week to host a rock jam.Between scheduled practices and the jam night the guys quickly came into their own as a band with a distinct style that had hints of their influences but was still highly original. The band stopped doing the jam night and started focusing on getting gigs around the island. There was a strong forward momentum and they got noticed more and more around the island playing at bars and all ages shows. The band was doing well for a year and a half but tentions were growing with Brady and the band. After some confrontations at shows it was evident that it wasn’t working out with Brady and they parted ways. With the band having created a following and having an albums worth of songs, Jeff and Paul were not ready to call it quits and frantically looked for a new bass player. They found one in a collage buddy of Paul’s named Mark O’Halloran. As everything else in this band the induction of Mark was a natural process. He picked up the songs quickly having been familiar from watching the band with Brady. Within a week they had a show and things took off. They went into a studio in Lake Cowichan and started recording “Contrastâ€, their first EP.
The cd produced by former Kick Axe guitar player Ray Harvey came out in early 2008 and the eclectic mix of songs are ready to take over the world airwaves. The Whiteboard Projects live show has an intensity that captivates the audience and inspires endless energy. They have gone from small unknowing crowds to a dedicated fan base that is relentless in its efforts in supporting the band. They have shared the stage with bands such as Zimmers Hole and Dave Paddon from Annihilator, as well as many others from around the globe. The band refers to itself as an alternative progressive hard rock band and is ready to carve its own notch in the belt of the Industry. real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools
