TONY G./NU IMAGE
BIOGRAPHY
NU Image, an Urban Dance Vocal Trio out of Paterson, New Jersey, is showing that music can mix it up with their debut album" NU Image", a blend of Latin Pop, Dance and R&B rhythms. Their debut album, released on AriA Records, was a labor of love for the three members of this vocal trio. Members Tony G., Tyree Hernandez and Victor Zapata, together with renowned producer, Pompeo Messano, wrote and produced the album in its entirety, which includes the hits: "Tears In My Eyes", "I'll Always Love You" and "Theres No Love". Currently, their music is reaching audiences in various radio markets including San Antonio, Dallas, Salinas, CA, Chicago, Hartford, New Haven, and New York.
NU Image originally started in 1992 when Tony G. and childhood singing partner Tyree Hernandez decided to capitalize on their talent and love of music. NU Image was originally produced by George Mena, Ivan Mate Cheverez and Marvin Flores, which resulted in the track, "Sounds Of Love". Feeling the musical chemistry with another upcoming singer, Victor Zapata, Tony and Tyree decided to revamp the NU Image sound with upcoming producer Pompeo Messano and added Victor to the performing lineup.
Both Tony and Pompeo have worked with major freestyle artists in the past, including writing the track "Sexual Fantasy" which was featured on the TKA album, "TKA Forever". Tyree, along with Tony G., co-wrote the group's first release "Tears In My Eyes" and a number of tracks on the album including "You Are Worth" and "Black Magic Woman". After the group's first regional tour, Tyree decided to leave his hometown of Paterson, NJ (or P-Town as he likes to refer to it) and embark on new adventures in South Carolina. Tyree got a chance to hone his writing skills, working on a variety of projects in the South Caroline R&B scene. In 2001, he felt the desire to go back to P-Town and once again teamed up with Tony G. to collaborate on NU Image's next project. With the R&B influence that Tyree acquired from South Carolina, joined with the Pop flare that Tony G. brings to NU Image, they looked to Latin singer, Victor Zapata, to add a new element that now makes up the formidable sound of NU Image.
Victor Zapata is no stranger to the music world. He was born in the Dominican Republic and, at a young age, moved to Paterson where he met up with his future musical partners. He recorded his first solo project in 1999, entitled "False Tears" which was written by Tony G. and Tyree and produced by Pompeo Messano. This track was released on the Stylin' Free compilation for Aria Music. In 2001, he was asked to join NU Image permanently, and a NU Image was then born. Victor also has writing and producing credits to his name on the album release, and he is currently in the studio working on tracks that will be heard on the next NU Image album.
Having been influenced by many Latin hip hop artists of the past, NU Image is proud to be in the company and surrounded by such talented DJ's, Producers and Artists such as K7, George Lamond,Tito Puente Jr, Baron Lopez, Kenny Diaz, Mickey Garcia, Pompeo Messano, Riccardo Piparo, Ivan "Mate" Cheverez, Elis Pacheco, Joey Malzone and Eddie Vaz. NU Image is set to be one of the leaders of the New School of Latin Hip Hop with their blend of R&B, Pop and Latin that goes against the grain. The group's intricate harmonies, dynamic stage presence and innovative sound will demonstrate that the music world needs a NU Image.
