Canadian Reggae Award Winner, Roy (Django) McRae was born in Guyana into a musical family; his father a percussion player his mother a gospel singer his uncles by his father side are all steel pan makers, tuners, arrangers, and players, his brothers and sisters and also some of his cousins took up that trend. At age five he started to play the tenor pan in one of Guyana's most popular band headed by his uncle called, (Guynec Superstars). Django played with that band for eight years and another five years with the famous Bidco Invaders Int Steel Orchestra, further acquiring a taste for Folk songs, Calypso, Reggae , Gospel and Popular music by performing at schools, churches, community events and concerts. At twenty years of age he decided to formally study music and attended the university of Guyana. As he broaden his skills by playing the piano, guitar, drums and bass, his musical vocabulary expanded into Jazz, Classical, R&B, Latin, Soul, Rhythm & Blues, African and Asian music. With a solid knowledge of the music industry intact, django set out to tour the world. His first big event was representing Guyana at the World Steel pan Individual Solo Festival held in Trinidad and Tobago Nov-1996. Subsequently after that he had some band experience with Mischievous Guys, Sheriff Deputies and the Mingles sound Machine Band, before migrating to Canada in 1998. While residing in Canada Django have had the opportunity of forming his own group called Xplosion Band 2002 Canadian Reggae Award winner .Django performed at many of the festivals throughout the GTA area such as the Irie Festival,Jamaica Day,Marcus Garvey Day,Guyana Day and many more,sharing the line up with artiste such as The Mighty Sparrow,Pamela Maynard, Gypsy, Machel Montano, legendary reggae artist, Ken Booth, Mighty Diamond, Marcia Griffiths, Half Pint, Ernie Smith, Capleton, Natural Blacks, Wayne Wonder,The Drifter, Roger B, Troy C, Pablo G and so many more. While presently working on his first reggae album to be released very soon, D,jango provides private music lessons and workshops throughout the community.
