Sally (R.I.P), snowboarding, yoga, arena seating movie theaters, surfing (despite sucking), the female form, social nihilsm, writing, my family, tattoos, art, movies, literature, most things involved with film production, my computer, writing, video games, lacrosse, rolling around Korea Town at night trying not to get run over, my friends, snuggling, kissing, reading, voyeurism, petting, perversion, music, finding the perfect bar (two pool tables and a jukebox that has at least six albums that i know and at least like a lot, if not love. Bonus points if it contains a slayer album and/or a murder city devils disc, ie., THE KILOWATT!), intelligent people, playing pool and live music.
J.D. Salinger, Michael Ovitz, Peter Beard, Cindy Sherman, Jack Vettriano, William Goldman, Frank Miller, Pope John Paul II, Hitler, Aristotle, Albert Camus, Francis Bacon, Thomas Merton, Sydney Moon and Michelangelo are a good start. Not such a big fan of smoking. Kids with whom I can shoot pool and play with even on an occasional school night. People who do what they say they are going to do. People who can provide constructive feedback on my scripts. Good spitballers. People who will go surfing with me from time to time.Anyone who knows a plethora literary agents and development execs would also be a good thing.
More or less all types from George Winston to Slayer. Music I have been listening to the most lately though: Bloc Party, Bright Eyes, Shellac, Swervedriver, Xiu Xiu and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Band of Horses, Tilly and the Wall, Tool, The Kills, DFA 1979 (too bad they pulled a dodo bird), Wolf Parade has grown on me as has Arcade Fire. I like the Rolling Stones more than the Beatles.Since I do this so frequently I'll have to go back a few months or years for recent favorites...Bands that aren't played out yet that I still enjoy...You Say Party! We Say Die! Stars Ian Archer Eastern Youth Uncut (Not there yet but they have potential) Fields (Another band that might pull it together)
Favorites I have seen recently and for the year:Reign Over Me Superbad Juno Savages (Although this film is not nearly as funny as advertised) In the Valley of Elah Rescue DawnRoger Deakins deserves the Cinematography award for his collective work this year alone.
"Heroes" now sucks. "Life" could be good but they need to decide once and for all what direction they want to go in.Others that impressed me this season.Dexter (again) Friday Night Lights (again as well...) Californication Dirty Sexy Money (maybe because it is on and not horrid) Samantha Who? Last One StandingI must say that Innertube has done a decent job of making television accessible over the internet.
Favorite writer is J.D. Salinger. I also love Thomas Merton, Vonegut, Irving, some Steinbeck, a few by Lawrence among others.Basically, a bunch of dead or dying white guys, the countries are different though.Finished Malcom Gladwell's book "Blink." It is a great read. I also finished the "Lone Conformist." Parts of it are brilliant. Other parts lag quite a bit. Novel I recommend. "The Russian Debutante."I have been avoiding reading anything too good lately for some odd reason. I think it might have to do with my writing mood as of late.Finished a classic espionage tale recently, "The Man Called Intrepid." A must read for historians of WWII and/or those interested in spies and the intelligence communities of the world.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see it's path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
