Everybody has a favorite teacher, mentor or coach, and for many at Brazos Christian School, Leslie Yezak was all of the above. "What I loved most about him is he had a heart for this school, and he had a heart for the kids," Brazos Christian senior Anna Leigh Carter said. "I think the students are going to remember him most for just how much he loved everybody," Andrea Thomasson, a high school senior said. "Even though he was our principal in our school, he was so much more than that." "It'll definitely be hard returning back to school and him not being at the front greeting everybody," junior Luke Rother said. "It'll be different." The day after the fatal accident took the life of a Brazos Christian School leader, students, faculty and friends remembered the life of Leslie Yezak. The school was on fall break this week, and word of the tragic news was released last night. Now, the school is mourning the loss of one of their own. Many say the halls of Brazos Christian will never be the same. "He couldn't walk the hallway without having fun with the students and encouraging them," Brazos Christian School Headmaster Robert Armstrong said. "He knew them all by name. He knew their families, and he talked with them." Yezak served as an academic principal and athletic director. Brazos Christian officials say he was involved in almost every aspect of the school. That's why when Yezak didn't show up for a volleyball game Tuesday night people began to worry. "I called his wife and she was trying to find him and she couldn't, and at about 5:45p.m., we got a call from her that indicated he had been killed in an automobile accident," Armstrong said. "It was like someone kicked you in the stomach, your just trying to make it real, comprehend what's happened," Varsity Football Coach Boyd Brigman said. The staff says one of Yezak's greatest joys came when the school's baseball team won the state championship last year. "That was the most joyful seasons he ever had in coaching mainly because his two sons were on the team," Assistant Athletic Director Rick Osborne said. Yezak's office at the school now feels a bit empty. However, students, faculty and staff say Yezak filled the school with enough pride and happiness to last a lifetime. They say he will always be remembered as a man who wore his heart for God on his sleeve. "As Christians, we know there is a better place we're all going to and that makes this a little bit better to deal with, but there's still the shock of losing a good friend," a tearful Osborne said.
