Drink 1R2 is a punk rock band that plays original music as well as old school covers. Band members include Troy on Vocals, Shawn on Guitar, Dave on Guitar, Greg on Bass, and Wayne on drums. We have been influenced by punk rock from the 70’s and 80’s including bands like, The Descendents, The Misfits, The Dead Kennedy’s and The Ramones just to name a few. We have also been influenced by parody/comedy bands, such as Weird Al Yankovic, Spinal Tap, and D.V.D.A just to name a few. This would explain a lot of our often sick and twisted humor and somewhat angry lyrics backed up by punk rock riffs. We do not define ourselves, however, to a specific sound or lyric content. We write whatever comes to us.
The name of the band was created back in the Summer of 2003 when Troy, Shawn and Greg were drinking at their favorite local bar. They would make up parody lyrics to songs playing on the radio. A popular punk pop band came on and while making up lyrics to the song, Troy mentioned the name of the punk pop band, and then Greg said Drink 1R2. We talked about starting a band in the past and were looking for a name. At this point and time we decided we would start that band and call it Drink 1R2. It was a parody name and it referred to the good time we were having hanging out drinking beer and making up parody lyrics to the popular bands playing on the radio at that point and time.
We had a band name now but no drummer. Troy would play drums at first just to try and get the band moving along. Troy was not a drummer; he was a vocalist and guitar player. This would turn out to be quite a funny spectacle, but in two or three months he would get good enough on the drums to at least learn some cover songs. Troy could not sing and play drums at the same time. He did try to do it but sounded like a robot. All those limbs moving and singing was overloading his brain. We decided if we were going to take the band farther we needed a drummer. We posted a wanted add on a local radio station web site and along came Wayne. Once Wayne was in place Troy was able to do the vocals the way they were meant to be heard. We were able to learn more covers but ultimately wanted to write our own music. We started writing original music toward the end of 2004.
In 2007 we were asked to open for the I Don’t Cares at The Marysville Tavern. We had enough original music and covers to play 30 minutes. The show was a success which led us to write more original music as well as learn more covers.
In 2008 we wanted to add another guitar player to the band. It would give us the opportunity to make some of our music a little more intricate at times, but still keep it simple sounding. It would also help with some covers we wanted to learn that were two guitar parts. Wayne new a guy named Dave that was a guitar player and he was interested in trying out for the band. After a few sessions he fit in well and we added him to the band.
We currently play at bars in the Central PA area. We have played with local bands such as, The I Don’t Cares, Paper Tongue, The Machetes, Second Best and Chuggernaut just to name a few. We are always looking for a good time and have been dubbed the “Punk Rock Party Band†by some of our peers. We can play an all original show or a mixed original and cover show. We currently can play well over an hour of original and cover music and about 40 minutes of original music. We are constantly writing more original music as well as learning new covers. An original show, cover show, or both, it does not matter to us; we just want to play music.
