I was born in Brooklyn New York, and later ventured west to beautiful southern California.
I am KaKamia Jahad Imarisha (also known as Jackie A Henderson)
I am a poet, an artist, a political activist, and an
anarchist. A political prisoner who is SURVIVING while doing a 15 year to "life" sentence inside of a California State Prison.Convicted back in 1990, I have spent half my life inside the California penile system. The circumstances of my case pointed to me, a then- young Black Puerto Rican from the streets taking the brunt of a conviction for his two older annnnd "WHITE" co-defendents.Since my incarceration,I have evolved and transformed myself by using this time to study, and hone in on my God given talents; my artwork and my poetry. I have found purpose and meaning in life from becoming politically involved in positive, productive, and constructive ways. Through organizing and conducting study groups inside the prison walls, writing and gathering support for causes out in the community, with an affinity towards my African, Latino and Hispanic brothers and sisters. Forever using my love of art and poetry to express the raw and un-dilluted truth!I have published a chapbook entitled “Hollowpoint†and much of my artwork has been part of the 'Contexts Art Show', which was shown in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. In Philadelphia of 2004. An art showing was held in my honor which featured my work exclusivley. Also, my poetry has appeared in AWOL Magazine, Struggle Magazine and the new anthology: Bandana Republic; A Literary Anthology by Gang Members and Their Affiliates,
(edited by Louis Reyes Rivera and Bruce George)
