Memories Lab form in Messina in 2001 from the concept of Claudio La Rosa (drums) and Giovanni Girone (vocals) of forming a prog-metal band following in bands’ footsteps such as Pain of Salvation, Opeth and Spock’s Beard but taking cue also from the Italian progressive scene of the ‘70s. Once completed the formation with Giuseppe Ruggeri (bass), Frank Martino (guitar) and Antonello Bruto (keyboards and synth), the composition process of brand new tracks begins immediately and in few months born “Crossing the soul gate” (2002), a self-produced ep containing the first three tracks from the band. With this first work, the band begins to show itself to the Italian musical situation playing live in Sicily (the guys are called as headliners for the Iron Fest ’03) and in Calabria, being a hit with the public. After two years they come back with a second ep called “The Treasure” (2004), meeting with positive approvals on some Italian metalzines and this lead them to perform live also in more important contexts as Emergenza Rock and Sanremo Rock. The departure of Martino and Bruto from the band compels Memories Lab to a pause concerning live performances but not concerning composing. So they start to have some ideas for the new work of the band. In 2006 with the arrival of Gianluca “Filtro” Rizzo (guitar) the sound of the band includes more heavy sonorities compared to the past. In a few time they public “Empathy”, self-produced ep with five tracks. This ep will be positively reviewed in tens of national and international webzines. So they restart their live activity until when, in 2007, Francesco “Terence” Forestiere (keyboards and synth) enters in the group too, enhancing the sound with his dark-wave background. Then they start with the recording sessions of “Stronger than hate”, their first concept album of ten tracks, recorded and mixed at Imago Sound studios and masterized at Fascination Street Studio by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Paradise Lost, SymphonyX and others).
I Memories Lab si formano a Messina nel 2001 dall'idea di Claudio La Rosa (batteria) e Giovanni Girone (voce) di formare una prog-metal band sulle orme di band quali Pain of Salvation, Opeth e Spock's Beard ma che prendesse spunto anche dalla scena progressive italiana degli anni '70. Una volta completata la formazione con Giuseppe Ruggeri (basso), Frank Martino (chitarra) e Antonello Bruto (tastiere e synth), il processo di composizione di nuovi brani ha subito inizio e nel giro di pochi mesi vede luce “Crossing the soul gate” (2002), ep autoprodotto contenente i primi 3 brani della band. Con questo primo lavoro, la band comincia ad affacciarsi al panorama musicale italiano suonando dal vivo in Sicilia (vengono chiamati come headliner all'Iron Fest '03) ed in Calabria, riscuotendo un buon successo. Dopo 2 anni tornano con un secondo ep “The Treasure” (2004), che riscuote consensi positivi su diverse metalzine italiane e che li porta ad esibirsi dal vivo anche in contesti più importanti come Emergenza Rock e Sanremo Rock. L'allontanamento dal gruppo di Martino e Bruto costringe i Memories Lab ad una pausa sul fronte live ma non su quello della composizione. Iniziano infatti a metter su le prime idee per quello che sarà il nuovo lavoro della band. Nel 2006 con l'arrivo di Gianluca “Filtro” Rizzo (chitarra) il suono della band ingloba a sé sonorità più heavy rispetto a prima. In breve tempo pubblicano “Empathy”, ep di 5 brani autoprodotti. Quest'ultimo verrà recensito positivamente in decine di webzine nazionali ed internazionali. Riprendono così la loro attività live fino a quando, nel 2007, entra nel gruppo anche Francesco “Terence” Forestiere (tastiere e synth) che arricchisce il sound con il suo background dark-wave. Cominciano così le session di registrazione di “Stronger than hate”, il loro primo concept album di 10 tracce registrate e missate presso gli studi della Imago Sound e masterizzato presso il Fascination Street Studio da Jens Bogren (Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Paradise Lost, SymphonyX e altri).
