The Gepetto File

It began innocently enough in the winter of 2000. Reeling from the death of his drummer due to a bizarre masturbation accident, Mr. G went out to see The Meat Puppets and get drunk to keep his mind off of his most recent tragedy. After six months of extensive practice, the tentatively named Gepetto File, was once again without a crucial ingredient. Mr. G, along with Fatt Matt Rose and Crispy, mourned the loss of his fallen comrade and the once again disintegrating music project. But it was at this Meat Puppets show that fate would join in and bring The Gepetto File back together. Midway through the show, Mr. G noticed a familiar face near the stage. It was the face of former Ugly Head front man, The Ancient Mariner himself, Drednaught. Fatt Matt’s older brother, Jack Rose, was also in Ugly Head thus Mr. G had met Drednaught several times before. Though Dred had no recollection of Mr. G, they talked extensively after the show. Once the small talk was done the conversation turned inevitably to the realm of Rock n Roll. That’s when they realized that both men had just lost their respective bands. Dred had a drummer, Ramjob, and Mr. G could provide two guitar players. That’s the birth of the Gepetto File. It wasn’t always the unique sound that one hears today. When the band first started they had three guitar players and the sound was somewhat muddled. After much talk about how to fix the problem without kicking someone out, the band decided that Fatt Matt would have to buy an electric mandolin which is a crucial factor in The Gepetto File’s unique sound. A lot has changed since the conception of The Gepetto File, the line up, the instruments, the managers, and even the sound, Mr. G has since left the band to spend more time with his family but he picked his own replacement, Butts Larue. They sound so much alike in the way that they play and sing that only die hard Fuck Puppets ever realized that there was a switch at all. Mr. G still plays and important roll in the band by creating and commissioning original artwork and show fliers. Managed on and off by the mysterious Frank Cass (Frank has been fired twice by the band and is rarely ever seen), The Gepetto File has rocked Virginia steadily since 2001. The band has put out two albums, "Shit Puppet" in 2002 and "Love Songs, Bitch" in 2004. In 2003 at the Cary Street Watermelon Festival The Gepetto File earned the title of "Richmond’s Loudest Band." The Gepetto File continues to be a creative force in the Richmond music scene tackling such controversial subjects as politics, adultery, gay marriage, child killing parents, and child molesting pop kings. So if you’re tired of the same whiney shit that you hear on every "new rock" station these days, give The Gepetto File a try.
