OF DA.. DRAMAWARD
Born and raised on the westside streets of Chicago in the notorious section known as "K-Town", D-Fly began writing rhymes in 1986. It wasn..t until 1992 that this rapper/producer decided to seriously get into the music business and persue a career. Starting off with just a $500 drum machine, D-Fly started making beats for himself and several neighborhood friends. Soon after that, he began performing in local talent shows and going to recording studios.
In 1994, D-Fly came into contact with his present-day "family", Da.. DramaWard , introduced to them by Belo Zero of Do or Die. In 1995 D-Fly , along with his friend Nate-G , formed an independent record label, Chi-funk Records . Since then, he has released 4 projects ... RedRum (1995), RedRum Remixes (1996), AfterShock EP ( D-Fly and Coc-Killa (1998)), and I'ma Tell Ya Like This (2002) . The combination of these projects, small rotation on 106Jamz with PinkHouse (R.I.P.), and WGCI..s Chicago Home Jams , and appearances on various mix tapes has helped D-Fly to establish a buzz in the Chicago underground music world. He also shot a video for "Dedicated to tha Streets" ( RedRum ), which was aired on a local access channel in Chicago. Meanwhile all this, D-Fly has managed to work on many other projects included local talent and also with the likes of elite artists and producers such as PsychoDrama, Triple Darkness, Do or Die, Twista, Crucial Conflict, The Grind Family, Snypaz, Layzie Bone, Eric Hightower, Keith Crouch, and Roger Troutman, Jr. .
As far as his music talent, D-Fly states that it's in his genes. He started playing the drums in 3rd grade, and also took a year of piano and guitar. He comes from a very musically inclined family. His father used to sing in a group in his younger days with Larry Tate, (Lorenz Tate's Father) and Louis Price, (who went on to sing with The Temptations). Not only that, but D-Fly's, brother, Keezo Kane, (who's a producer on Kanye West's, G.O.O.D. Music Label) has produced hits for L.L. Cool J, , The Alkaholics, , and Talib Kweli, . He's currently working on songs for Nas, and Lloyd Banks, .
Currently, D-Fly is in the studio recording and mixing songs for Triple Darkness and The Grind Family . Both groups have major distribution deals through Fontana/Universal and Warlock/Sony , respectively.
