THE PEDGE aka DJ PEDRO has been involved with the dnb scene since it’s origins in of the rave scene in back in 1988.
The Pedge has always been into music from a young age. Being from a Jamaican heritage he was brought up on reggae music through his childhood and in the early 80’s developed a love for Hip-Hop music and its culture and a love for electronic music, be it dance music or commercial music. This was apparent in his musical influences which were from all different styles of music, from Afrika Bambaataa to Gary Numan.Once in his teens, in the mid 80’s he would save all of his money and go to record shops like HITMAN, GROOVE, RED & BLUEBIRD Records to buy music whenever he could afford it.Even though he was always buying music he didn’t get the buzz for Djing until 1987 when he first got into Detroit Techno and House music. This really was the beginning of his djing career and it wasn’t long before his passion for music was to shine through to everybody else and he was to meet 3 people and now good friends who shared the same passion for the music as he did and who The Pedge says really inspired him:
RAY KEITH, FABIO & GROOVERIDER.By the late 80’s he was working in Red Records Brixton and by the early 90’s Pedro was djing in some of the legendary clubs of the rave era: ASTORIA, BUSBY’S, BREAKFAST CLUB, LAZERDROME and his favourite SLIMETIME, where Pedro would dj back to back with one of his closest friends RAY KEITH.
Over the forthcoming years Pedro went on to dj extensively in Europe & USA.Whilst working in Red Records in 1989 he met long-time friend and legendary producer/dj NOOKIE. They went on to collaborated on many tunes and form a record label called Daddy Armshouse. The partnership created some big tunes over the years and is set to return to with some new material in 2007 / 2008.Now to the present day where Pedro is still Djing and working hard in the studio on solo and joint projects with previous releases on Dread Recordings, Moving Shadow, Metalheadz, 720Degrees & Hospital Records with forthcoming material on various labels.
Most notably of late his collaborations with Blame in the form of K.O.T.P and now re-branded to BLAME & THE PEDGE are having massive support from Fabio, Grooverider, Nookie & Mampi Swift to name a few.The Pedge loves all styles of dnb and electronic dance music which can be heard in his production and his djing. Even though he try’s to remain behind the scenes (like a Sith Lord!) The Pedge is a face that will be recognizable to many people in clubland and finally you’ll be able to able to put a face to the name.
