About Me

Welcome.About me? I am an actor/writer/musician. A New Yorker, married, father of four, living in L.A. Been a performer for 44 years, married for almost 30, and a father for 25 A little personal history, only if you are interested: After my first appearance onstage at the New York World's Fair in 1964, a series of garage bands brought me to New York bar bands and recording studios in the 70s and 80s. You could say these were the best of times and the worst of times. I grew up in Valley Stream, Long Island (Valley Stream turned out a number of notable actors; Steve Buscemi, Ed Burns, and Larry Miller, to name a few). Got my ass kicked by nuns for being the class clown in Catholic Grammer school, and started playing rock and roll. I met my wife, fell in love, and got married. In the 1980s, I became a published songwriter. I also became a Dad four times over and cut the umbillacle cords. Had the pleasure of playing onstage, writing, or recording with the likes of (name-dropping is always good for some google hits) Brian Setzer (Stray Cats), Richie Cannata (Billy Joel, Beach Boys), Tommy Burns (Billy Joel), Tommy Finn (The Left Banke), Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees, Kevin Shaw, Freddy Frogs, Boz Skaggs, Rock Roll, Gene Cornish (Young Rascals), Barry Sallows, Lex Marchesi (Fotomaker), Paul Schaeffer, and my good friend, Eddie Hilton (RIP), among others. After a rock and roll life in NYC in the 80s and all that comes in that little package, I had to get away and raise my kids!In Florida, auditioned for a local Theatre, where I landed the role of "The Beadle" in "Sweeney Todd". I was hooked. The first in a long list of live theatre gigs, including a couple of World premieres written by Eugene O'Neal playwright, Bill Leavengood. Somewhere in there I realized I was an actor, and began studying the Eric Morris method of acting under Kathy Laughlin. Eventually I got an agent, got my SAG card, did a little tv, and a bunch of commercials. I was given my much appreciated first break by my friend, Steve Buscemi, when I was still pretty green. Steve used to hang with my brother, Kevin (can't thank you enough, Steve). He put me in "Animal Factory", which he was directing at the time. In one scene, I was nose to nose with film great, Willem DaFoe! I soon quit my day job and we moved west. The 21st century finds me acting in film and television. In 2002, we moved to Los Angeles. Since then, I've threatened Dennis Franz, arrested Michael Chicklis, saved Sandra Bullock from a collapsed mine, sold a car to Tim Allen, and switched dice for Al Pacino. Well, their characters, anyway! I like to keep working on my craft and . . .well, to just keep working. And ahead, there's the future. --------- FOR MY FILM AND TELEVISION RESUME',PLEASE CLICK HERE:------------------------------------------------------- -------------- Though I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king, my most important roles are that of Husband and Father. Thanks for visiting.Jim --------------------------------James Martin Kelly DEMO REEL:
