About Me
Though she was born and raised in some of the most urban areas of Detroit, MI, Aisha “Isha†Walker has been determined to be successful and make a positive change in the world as early as the age of 7. Whether she was entering and winning various contest, from spelling bee’s, to math tournaments, to essay contest about cleaning up the environment, or performing in school plays, the concert band or glee club, she has always been blessed with the drive and tenacity to succeed in both the arts and the academics. It’s no wonder that by the age of 22 she had already formed Positive International Media, LLC, a mutlti-media entertainment company with a mission to make positive changes in the world through the arts.
Although Isha was a very brilliant child, during high school she was influenced heavily by neighborhood “thugs†and participated in many activities that deter inner city youth from their goals. Due to the fact that her mother had been ill most of her life, she was raised by a strict father. Of course once puberty kicked in, Isha and her father never really saw eye to eye on the issues. Though many times her Stepmother would be her only “Saving Graceâ€, Isha was a habitual runaway between the ages of 12 and 14. Searching for family love in all the wrong places, Isha participated in gang activities until deciding to become “saved†and participated fiercely in helping to develop her churches youth program. The positive side is that the things she experienced growing up and hanging out in the streets of the D have helped her to be a very compassionate and understanding soul of many of the issues that people in the streets and the hood deal with.
However, by the time Isha finished High School her arts became more like a hobby. She shared her poetry and raps with her friends in the hood, who encouraged her to take her talent seriously, but by the time she graduated she was more looking to go into a career in business, to get money and to please her father and grandmother.
After a few years of earning a very good living in Corporate America as an award winning sales professional, Isha began to question the true meaning of life. Coincidentally her niece, at only age 2 and a half, was murdered. Isha decided to get away for a while and found herself giving away most of her material possessions and packing up to move to Atlanta, GA. After some serious soul searching and self-realization, Isha decided to take her talent seriously and found herself in college at American Intercontinental University for Media Production. While in Atlanta, Isha put together several projects: Her first Hip-Hop Album titled “Reversed Psychology†a Hip-Hop Play also titled “Reversed Psychologyâ€, and she also wrote R and B songs and produced for local Atlanta talent.
Maybe it was the air of September 11th, mixed with her deceased nieces father, who was like her brother, being murdered only three years after the death of her niece that caused Isha to undergo another lifestyle change. In 2004 Isha began to really see the importance of living life to the fullest. Suddenly, this 313-pound ghetto girl, whose original artist name was “Big Prettyâ€, lost nearly half of her weight by becoming vegetarian and stopped “puffing and sippingâ€. She also began to expand her views on spirituality and politics and decided to really put her all into helping others through her music and plays by not just commenting on the issues that people in the hood face, but really identifying clear solutions.
In 2005 Isha decided to move back to Detroit where there was not so much of a “Peace and Love†type of feel that the city of Atlanta gives. After coming home, Isha quickly became popular simply by taking the advice of her mentor Jesse, and her Role Model “Russell Simmons†and began giving as much of her time and talent that she could. She linked up with several local politicians, educators, non-profits, such as Project A.R.T., and artist, such as the Hip-Hop Collective Power Movement. After a long summer, Isha headed to Atlanta to record her mixtape “Street Soulja’s Vol. 1â€. Ripping over some of the hottest tracks with lines like “ In the hood I see drama, These Negro’s more concerned about a dollar, than bonded with their lineage in Ghana/You call your woman whore, even if she’s baby mama/The black family unit dying in a state of trauma…it’s no wonder that after releasing Street Soulja’s Vol in March of 2006, she was able to push 3000 copies by herself in the streets of the D.
In 2006 Isha also put on her second Hip-Hop Musical “The Harris Family Qâ€. Showcasing her array of talents, Isha Produced, took on a lead actress role, and Co-Directed (with the help of up and coming young director Allen Ford) this production, which was also a leadership training camp for up and coming actors and rappers.
Currently Isha is a member of Detroit’s Hottest Hip-Hop Squad “Power Movement†and performs several times a month at Detroit’s Hottest Venues. Isha also spends her time writing and recording R and B songs for local artist, writing for Street Soulja’s Vol. 2, Teaching a Hip-Hop class and an Acting Class to students in After School Programs in Detroit and building financial relationships with parties who are looking to invest in Positive International Media. Surely this “Wonder Woman†can’t be stopped!
