Happy St. Patrick's Day
Year after year we managed to sneak a "joke float" into the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Columbia, SC. Each year we had a different theme, but "Silly Beards" were always required, even if you had a real beard. There is something about being unrecognizable that lends itself to mischeif and mayhem. We'd start partying around 7:00am, and not finish until dark. Some years I'd nap (maybe calling it passed out would be more truthful) a couple times that day. I'd just get up and go back at it.
I think this photo is from the very first St. Patrick's Day Parade in 5 Points. My friends had won this junker car as a prize for the very first "Group Therapy" (the most famous bar in Columbia) Halloween Costume Contest. Yes, that's me in the green mop dreadlocks.
I found Globeman at Fantasy Fest in Key West... what a Trip it is.... one of the BEST ways to spend Halloween... It's like Mardi Gras with warmer weather, better costumes, and often a lot less clothing.

Red Dwarf began as a low budget science fiction sitcom that mainly concentrated on the interaction between the show’s two anti-heroes, the slobbish and hygienically-challenged Dave Lister, and the obnoxious, regimental, and analy-retentive Arnold Rimmer. Together with the vain and narcissistic human-feline, Cat, and Holly, the slightly-insane ship’s computer, they attempt to find their way back to Earth, encountering strange life-forms, space/time anomalies, and parallel universes along the way.
The Intro that started each show for the first season or two:
"This is an SOS distress call from the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak. The only survivors are Dave Lister, who was in suspended animation during the disaster, and his pregnant cat, who was safely sealed in the hold. The name Aikido is composed of three Japanese words: ai, meaning harmony; ki, spirit or energy; and do, the path, system or way. Aikido is the way of the spirit of harmony. Martial arts are studied for self-defense and self-improvement but Aikido is different from other martial arts in that practitioners seek to defend themselves without causing injury to their attackers.
The basic movements of Aikido are circular in nature; most attacks are linear. The Aikidoist harmonizes with, rather than confronts or clashes with attacker(s) converting their energy into circular motions. Instead of using punches or kicks, the Aikidoist trains to apply various wristlocks, arm pins, or unbalancing throws to neutralize aggressors without serious injury. Aikido is not a sport. Aikidoists train to better themselves without belittling others.
.Because Aikido does NOT use strength it can be used effectively by men and women, young and old with equal effectiveness. Aikido is particularly good at dealing with multiple attackers at once.
