With their debut album they give us more than many other bands done in their entire careers, both with the material and the sound. I&TBR show up a mature piece of art with a good variation in the tempo, the dept, the joy and the sound. Almost 52 minutes and not even once do they tend to sound monotone or boring. The variation is perfect and the band uses many different pieces that fill the music with a dept most debuting bands miss. 7/7p CAJ KÄLLMALM

Crucify your love is absolutely a great song with its divine vocal meldody line and none of the other titles is inferior to it membres.lycos.fr/soulwinds/groupes.htm

I have to say that I have recommended this piece to several people already and each of them has ordered it I strongly recommend this CD for those that enjoy the darker Goth style www.maximummetal.com/reviews/revresults.asp?ID=iatbr_st& idBand=310
Re-Flexion 06/04
...really outstanding Gothic Rock album. All 13 songs of this album which was released by the German label Dark Wings teem with gripping, energetic moments, like "Black Rose" or "Endless. At the same time, they lead to emotionally fragile meditativeness... But since "Icon & The Black Roses" keeps so many high quality tracks it will only be a question of time until this exceptional band will be present all around not only in the field of gothic. Terrific album. www.re-flexion.de/kritiken/2004/2004-04/iatbr-iatbr/iatbr-ia tbr.htm

The proof: You dont have to be from Finland to make Love Metal; the Portuguese also seem to manage that very well. Elmar Klemm Sentimental but still full of energy, dark and romantic. All the same the songs of the Portuguese are produced impressively clear and precisely to the point. Peter Heymann

... brilliantly played, cleverly arranged and composed with hearts blood. A Gothic debut which will definitely find many friends. www.emp.de

The Portuguese band managed to deliver a debut which is definitely worth listening to. The CD offers twelve songs and is proof of the musicians great capability! www.hoerspiegel.de

Icon & The Black Roses are proving that there really is a lively dark rock scene in Portugal. They should be causing quite a sensation these days with their album: Less hard than the big paragons, but instead more melodic and melancholic they make their debut to measure. Thorsten Kübler

Icon & the Black Roses manages to create a warm emotional atmosphere balanced by the, sometimes necessary, aggressive guitar and drum attacks, which sometimes result in melodic eruptions. TekNoir
Terrorverlag 04/04
Singer Johnny Icon, keyboarder Adam Nox, bass player Sean Rose and drummer Mike Thorn have been playing together since 1999 and God knows, they have really left the beginners stage. The album sounds after a lot of gig experience and very talented perfectionists. www.musik.terrorverlag.de/musik/rezensionen/index.php?select _cd=1165&kategorie=metal

The full length cd of this band is just in my hands...and I think that this is a jewel...a precious jewel that has been made with years of hard work! A deep album, full of melancholic rock, gothic, Lovemetal.....but a cd realized with absolute precision and passion.
Dark Heart 05/04
The first song Black Rose already points at the direction best Gothic rock guitar sounds that are cajoling the ear quiter songs like for example Remember are alternating with harder numbers like Sweetest Emptiness Of Love, a ballade here and there (Who do you hurt now?) thats the formula for success and for sure there will be more to come from Icon & The Black Roses over the next months. www.darkheartmagazin.get.to
Obliveon.de 05/04
The twelve songs of the homonymous debut are pure culture Gothic rock. They are mainly based on aggressive and melodic guitars alike while the rhythmical groundwork is jazzed up by several electronic plays. www.obliveon.menschkunst.info/pn-om/modules.php?op=modload&a mp;name=tplhome&file=index&req=showcontent&id=45 77

Hey, finally there is a gothic rock band which doesnt come from I-am-nearly-hanging-myself-because-there-is-so-little-sun-he re-Sweden but from this years football EM host Portugal... Remains to be said that the light gothic rock just comes across as very competent and that I am just taking to the ICONs. (maio) www.metal-inside.de
Melodic Hard Rock Today (Norway)
We are being served a mixture of 80's glam rock with gothic metal, melancholic rock and elements from synth pop with an heavy metal edge in their music. .. they have managed to make the best album I have heard in this genre ever! All in all the quality of this band and their songs are very high, they have manage to create their own sound and style with a great feel and atmosphere that warms my heart. I think this CD is so good that it sets standards for the reminder of the year 2004! ALBUM of the Month www.melodichardrocktoday.tk
Blacklight (May 2004)
In their lyrics they deal with popular topics like melancholy, anger, but also love, hope and groove. Very remarkable is the bands ability to conjure up a prevailing mood in their songs that is very positive and provides despite the gravity a light pop flair. A felicitous album which is still convincing even after repeatedly listening to it. www.blacklight-magazin.de/nw/article/Rezis-GothWaveEtc/10827 51720.html
Trust IN Music (May 2004)
More than twelve songs lugubriously performed... There is one advantage to that debut: While other bands started off with one hit per album, enforced by the phono industry (HIM, Heroes del Silencio) the Portuguese smirk at their collegues, cause there is absolutely no blackout - or even a short decline of the high quality standards to be found on that album. Bravo. Bravissimo. Hasta a Vista. www.trustinmusic.de
Shadowshire 04/04
Dark Rock from Portugal? Is that possible? Yes, why not, since Portugal has long been present in the Metal genre. "Icon & the Black Roses" is a quite new formation which was founded in 1999 and already rocked the boat with many shows at home. Finally, the debut of this exceptional band from the Iberian peninsula is available in shops.
