DJ Gabriel Rican's Bio:
Gabriel Rican Rodriguez of Puerto Rican decent was born in the Pilsen area on the Southside of Chicago. As kid he often found himself playing with his father's phonograph players, record collection, tape recorders instead of playing with toys. Something about music just fascinated him as a kid. At age fourteen yrs old, he and his former b-boy partners DJ 3rd Rail & Devastating Dennis started promoting and doing parties around the neighborhood.
In his first year of high school, Gabriel Rican's skills on the 1's & 2's quickly began to shine. Always being astounded by scratching, Gabriel Rican began to pull away from many of the local DJ's by having his own style that quickly made him a household name on the streets. During this time he had influenced and played a major role in the evolution of scratching and turntablism in Chicago. He wanted to put his skill to the test and started to enter DJ battles and competitions. Once entering competitions, he already had won a string of 25 DJ battles consecutively in a row... the longest of any DJ in the Chicago land area. By his junior year in high school, he had won high school DJ of the year and was invited to be on "Hardcover TV Show" hosted by Latino Youth.
In the early 90's, Gabriel first hit the airwaves on the historical WCYC 90.5 FM station perusing his lifelong dream of being a radio jock.
